Have you ever been a victim of a crime?

I have, a few times.
The first was back in college. A lady swindled me. I was on my way home when an old woman approached me. I was too friendly that I entertained her. She began telling me that she was a doctor and that she had left her car key inside her car which was parked nearby. She then proceeded and told me that she needed some money. She asked me to pawn the jewelry I was wearing then. But I declined. She then just asked me for some money. I don't know how it exactly happened but I ended up withdrawing all my money via atm. It was only after she left that I realized what happened. I went home crying.
Another time (I was a newlywed then), my husband and I went home from work and found our apartment broken into. The whole apartment was a mess. Our bedroom was ransacked. I couldn't sleep for weeks. Finally, we decided to give up the apartment and move somewhere else so I could have some peace of mind.
How about you? Any similar experience?

nothing violent, thankfully. but once when my boyfriend was out of town i was home by myself. i woke up at about 3 in the morning cause i heard a noise. when i walked into the living room there was a guy hanging half-way through the window! i yelled Hey! and he ran off.
for some reason i wasnt scared though. not sure why, but i didnt even call the police until morning. which of course they said i should have called right away. and they are right, cause perhaps they could have caught him if he was wandering the neighborhood.

your experience reminded me of a similar experience i had when i was in australia. i was alone in my apartment one night. a knocking sound woke me at 4am. then, i saw my bedroom door opening. since i was startled, i didn't realize that a stranger was in my apartment. i even asked him what he wanted! LOL! i guess he was surprised when i asked him so he just left. like you, i didn't notify the police. i told my co-workers about the incident in the morning and they told me that i should have called the police right away. now, i know better! :P
good thing nothing bad really happened to you. take care!

Several times. One time, a man snatched the bracelet I was wearing. It was made of gold but what hurts is that there is a sentimental value attached to the bracelet. Another time, when I was still a medical clerk (junior intern, or 4th year medicine proper), a classmate borrowed a diagnostic set to examine a patient. When he looked back, it was gone. Another time, when I was in the emergency room and we had a "code", everybody went to revive the patient. Unbeknowest to us, somebody went into our quarters and got all our money. Many other incidents but I'll just name a few here. A lot of incidents occurred in the charity division of the hospital. Maybe because the patients there are poor. But I believe poverty is not an excuse to steal. In the pay division of the hospital, we hardly had any losses.
