Bought all XBOX live stuff, cant get it started!!!?

So after a gruesome 5 houtrs of running around town, getting regular xbox, halo, xbox live card, ethernet cable, and everything I can not get it connected!! I just put ethernet cable into my computer and to xbox, internet is working great, but it's not even getting anything at the xbox. Still says I need to connect to internet through cable and when i push xbox live it always takes me to the troubleshooter, please help me

Also after you plug it into a CABLE MODEM (if thats what you have) you MUST call the cable company. Tell them you need help hooking up your xbox 360 to a cable modem with an ethernet cable. They need to do something there that will allow it to work. The downside you gotta do a few things that take a minute everytime you switch between the internet and ethernet.
