Mishaps, accidents, mistakes, failure, whatever be the nature they all teach us a valuable lesson as to not to repeat them. Infact a fear of punishment is a bigger incentive den a lure for reward, and forces ppl to stay away from dem. As for change in character is concerned, they do bring out some changes in us as we get closer to reality and start realizing how terrible it can be to be negligent.

If misfortunes truly strengthens one, then it should improve one's character. All misfortunes are a kind of test from God. They may bring about blessings or further misfortunes, depending on how they are handled. Misfortunes are also a teacher; they make the sufferer learn a lesson against the future. Misfortunes are also a reminder that we are all vulnerable. A lot of the people, though, have refused to improve their characters after suffering a misfortune, turning into an aggression transferor or an inconsolable wreck instead. Such people have ended up magnifying and prolonging their sufferings.
