Do you scrapbook? Is it an expensive hobby?

I have always been interested in scrapbooking. However, I have never started to do anything because I always think that this is an expensive hobby. I might do it when I have kids in the future.. =) I think that it would be so much worthwhile to do so.. =) Scrapbookers out there, would you share your opinions or experiences? Is this hobby as expensive as it looks like?

I think scrapbooking need not to be expensive. If you would like to, it can be. But I don't find it expensive personally. You just have to be resourceful enough. I would invest on the book base but with the designs and other stuffs, you can be creative with things that you can already find around you. I use very tiny sea shells, magazine cut-outs, yarns and buttons of different colors, dried petals of different flowers and other stuffs like that.

love your photos! your boys look like great pals. my dream is for my children to love each other and really take care of each other. and your digital scrapbooking is cool! I've seen many, but still prefer physical ones. even though it costs more. I figured that it's nice to have something to touch. although the flip side is that it collects dust. and it's easier to share these with friends who come visit. somehow more personal than getting the computer on and a disc.

I don't do scrap booking, but my daughter has. A friend gave her a beautiful scrap book for her birthday. She has done some very creative work with it. Scrap booking can really extend the imagination.

This hobby can be expensive but it does not have to be. As many of the respondents have already suggested, you can try to look for things to put in your scrap booking projects from a lot of sources. Aside from the others already suggested, I also use inexpensive gift wrappers with interesting pattern. Also there are a lot of stores that sell discounted scrap booking materials.

Gift wrappers!! Brilliant.. Yeah, I guess that I need to look for different sources other than costly scrapbook items in scrapbook fancy stores to look for material... Thanks for the tips.. =)

It doesnt have to be expensive. I use stamps in my books. I try to get stamp sets that will work with just about anything. I save all my paper scraps. ANd I sell Stampin up to support my habit! happy scraping! Rhonda

i think it's expensive cos u gotta use acid free products. i think magazines are not acid free and they might affect your photos in the long run. also glue that is not acid free can spoil photos. that's why i pay a bit more to buy the proper tools and materials. hoping that my photos will last. but i do agree that ribbons that don't touch the photos need not be acid free. the tools can be horrifically expensive. a quickutz machine for die-cut alphas costs some $500 USD!

Oh my goodness!!!! Wow... That's definitely a very expensive way to just preserve some memories! So, acid free materials are used to endure the pictures, is it? But if you glue the bottom of the pictures with just regular glue, then I guess that it wouldn't matter, right? Just if you glue some decorations on the picture, then it could ruin your picture...is it true? Apparently, you're the scrapbooking expert! =) I don't know anything about scrapbooking the correct way... Well, not yet, at least... =) Thanks for your reply, squaretile! =)

I agree, scrapbooking doesn't have to be expensive. I've seen my best friend's scrapbook and I don't think she spent a dime on it. All she did was cut out letters from magazines, old ribbons, some wrappers, etc. She really did a fine job out of it. I think it would be expensive if you buy all those ready made "kits" in bookstores. Just try to use everyday ordinary stuff.

Yeah.. I guess I think that way because I usually hang out in scrapbook stores a lot where everything costs a fortune!! I never got started, so I 'forget' that there are millions of other sources out there that you can use, which doesn't cost you even a dime.. =) Thanks, natalie1981! =)
