Is bankruptcy the same as stealing?

Me and my husband had a debate about this. I feel like bankruptcy is sort of the same as stealing. Is it? I mean, say you charged 30k in credit card debt, and it all gets discharged but you keep the stuff. So your getting stuff, and not paying for it? How does that work? I under stand there are legitimate people filing bankruptcy! I was just curious how this gets justified. It's all so strange to me!
