ALERT women be safe...read this true story

I received this e-mail yesterday and it sent chills up my spine. Please read this. It is no joke. Here is the e-mail I was sent: "Dear Friends: I know not all of you are women that I am sending this to, but am hoping you will share this with your wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, etc. Our world seems to be getting crazier by the day. Pipe bombs in mail boxes and sickos in parking lots with perfume. Be careful. I was approached yesterday afternoon around 5:30 PM in the Wal-Mart parking lot by two males asking what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were willing to sell me at very reasonable rate. I probably would have agreed had I not received an e-mail warning of a "Wanna smell this neat perfume?" scam. The men continued to stand between parked cars, I guess to wait for someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards them, pointing at them and told her about how I was sent an e-mail at work about someone walking up to you at the malls or in parking lots and asking you to SNIFF PERFUME that they are selling at a cheap price or at least compare to which one you like best. THIS IS NOT PERFUME...IT IS ETHER! When you sniff it, you'll pass out. They'll take your wallet, your valuables and heaven knows what else. If it were not for this e-mail, I probably would have sniffed the 'perfume' but thanks to the generosity of an e-mailing friend, I was spared whatever might have happened to me. I wanted to do the same for you. PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL YOUR WOMEN FRIENDS AND PLEASE BE ALERT AND BE AWARE. IF YOU ARE A MAN AND RECEIVE THIS, PASS IT ON TO YOUR WOMEN FRIENDS. Ladies, this happened to me yesterday and I didn't smell the perfume either, thanks to this email. This is true. Believe me, I know. I was over by Big Lots in the parking lot at lunch time when I was approached. So either day or night, it does not matter. There were 3 guys together when I was approached. I called the police when I got back to my desk. Like the email says above, LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS - YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, CO-WORKERS, whomever. It helped me. The first thing that popped into my head was this e-mail warning.

Thanks ever so much for posting this here, Margie. Once more it proves that women aren´t safe anywhere. Men are less likely to smell a perfume. I really think it´s better not to trust anyone we don´t know, unless it´s in a public place. Maybe our mothers were right after all by telling us: "Don´t talk to strangers". I will pass this on to every girl and woman I know. Very useful info. Thanks again. +++Dana

I want to share my experience here! One day I was walking on the road. I came across one desperate man standing with a scooter. He requestedmeto help him to set right his scooter ignition by asking me to holdthe handle. I obliged, the scooter started! Then he offered me a lift to my place, since he was also passing that side. I did not doubt him and accepted the offer. After reaching a corner of a street he reported again that his scooter did not work. He requestedme to hold the handle again . I did. He requested me to remove my ring That I was wearing in my fingure, sinceit is likely to slip down my fingure. As a fool, I obliged and removed my ring and placed in my packet. Then all went on well I was dropped near my house and that fellow went away. But when I reached my house, I searched for my Ring in my pcket, which was missing! I thnk he made me to loosemy sense at some point of time as your story, and managed to take away the ring from my shirt packet!

I do hope you went back into Wal-Mart and told them about the 'gentlemen' so they could be arrested by the supermarket security staff .. All my local supermarkets have car park walkers who are actually trolley stackers .. but they are also supposed to keep an eye out for ne'erdowells .. and they are very good at it .. there are rarely any problems and if ladies (or gents) feel a bit uncertain about going into the car park after dark a staff member will walk with you ..

These days every woman has to be aware of personal safety. It is a sad fact of life that we are all vulnerable and should be alert at all times.

I thought that sounded so familar. whiteheather39 was correct. I read those emails the first time they went around in 2001 or so. It is always good to be aware of everything around you. Some strangers are more of a stranger danger than every before.

I don't want to spoil your imagination running fast because of this post, but please before you pass this on to all of your women friends, please visit this site for details about this alert. But just to give you advance info regarding this, the snopes.com site says this is FALSE, and is simply an urban legend. http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/perfume.asp

Oh my goodness this is very bad I am happy that I have not had anyone approach me in my country offering to buy some perfume, yes when you pass out they could do anything that is dreadful I hope that you have reported this to the rightful authorities. Yes it would not matter if it was day or night they would still try to do this. Oh thank goodness you did call the police. It is a great warning and I bet that everyone would need to know about these dreadful people.

It's always better to be safe, than sorry. However, this is actually a fairly broadly documented "urban legend" that has been doing the rounds as a "scary email" for about 6-7 years. Whereas ether is dangerous and volatile (and the fumers are HIGHLY flammable) it is very unlikely that it would knock you unconscious merely from a couple of sniffs. I used to work with ether, in one of my early jobs. You'd actually need to take a few full breaths through an ether-soaked rag. This sounds like a good one for the boys on "Mythbusters" to tackle, though.

thank you for sharing the valuable information. i think the first thing you should do when you encounter these men is avoid them at all cost. i am woman, i would feel terrified if i was approached by one guy, let alone three. you should always be skeptical if a stranger approaches you, especially in a place where you don't see anyone else around.
