Check out the article at: http://cityguides.msn.com/citylife/slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=4635600>1=9263 Tiger stadium is number 3 on the list, and the only one that has not been demolished. Do any of you have some great fond memories of the ol' park? My first memory is when Dad took my brother and I, when I was 4. I didn't quite understand that there wouldn't really be tigers there (the actual big cat) and was so disappointed when I couldn't get one as a souvenir. I know, dumb memory - but very vivid to me. I of course also remember going with our little league softball team and getting stuck behind the poles - but having the time of our lives none the less! We were from a tiny town 2 hours southwest from Detroit, so it was a treat just going to the big city! Driving into town and passing that huge Tire with the arrow stuck into it (Did Ted Nugent really shoot that arrow?). Ok, now I'm just going off into another tangent.... So, what were your fondest or earliest memories of the Ol' Tiger Stadium?

I remember being 5 years old (I'm 25 now) and going down there with my uncles for a game. I remember how I thought "wow, I've played in parks that seemed nicer than this", but on the same note, it felt almost as if you were visiting a holy place or a something like that. The park had an aura about it, by the pure number of people you knew had walked through the gates, and the players who had walked out across that field. I've had the opportunity to make it out to see some of the demolitions. Some photos up on my website (www.chrisrabior.com) in the Michigan--Detroit--TigerStadiumPanoramics section.. I'm somewhat happy to see that it's finally being demolished. Is it a shame? Not at all. If you've seen the inside of the stadium lately, it's really heartbreaking to see how far the city allowed it to deteriorate. It's upsetting to see all of these efforts to save the stadium now that there's finally some progress being made. Where were all of these people when the thing was rotting away? Who knows. I'm hoping to keep a running record of photos of how the demolition's coming. I missed the initial teardown, and the first lights falling, but have quite a bit of the rest. It's going to be nice to see something else developed there. I just hope whatever they do to commemorate the location as being the former home for the Tigers is something classy and respected, and that the city's residents are respectful to it.

Tiger Stadium is one of the best ballfields to have ever existed. The design of the stadium made it look like it could have been hit by an earthquake and would be just fine. You always had a great view of the action on the field, even in the upper decks. I still miss it.
