A good bagel is best with cream cheese, nova or lox, a slice of tomato, and a slice of onion. Absolutely no need to toast it if it's a quality bagel.
If it's not a good bagel, it must be toasted. Cream cheese is always good. It's good with tomato and crisp bacon too.
Also lovely is to make a tuna salad and top the bagel with that and a slice of cheese (american or cheddar) and then stick it under the broiler until the cheese melts. Yum!

our favorite onion flavor bagel splitted half and heated at microwave for 1 min. with american white cheese single at top - so great also with shredded mixed cheese and dash of garlic powder. great for breakfast with hot cocoa or for afternoon snack with a glass of fresh fruit juice.

i usually just toast them and then put butter on them. but sometimes i buy the cream cheese with chives in them and put them on the onion or everything bagels..thats really good.

I definitely prefer to eat bagels with cream cheese. Lately I have been getting into a habit of not toasting the bagels, just getting them out and putting cream cheese on them. This eliminates the wait for the toasting and I think it tastes just as good. An everything bagel with some cream cheese is my absolute favorite.

I love bagels. Sometimes i have them with just butter. Othertimes i make them into mini pizzas or egg sanwiches. I think they are a very versatile bread. I actually dont like them with cream cheese though.

I once had this bagel sandwich at a bagel store in St. Augustine, Fl. It had lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and advocado, and it was so delious. I have tried to make it so many times, but it never completely measures up to the one in St. Augustine.
