Do you decide where and what to eat?

Do you decide where and what to eat? - A picture of a dartboard.

Do you play darts? Do you know how to play darts? Do you like to play darts? Even by now, you must be wondering whether wizzy had gone crazy again. After all, what has darts to do with food? Well, quite a fair bit if you let your creativity run wild. One of my friends works in an office where they throw darts to decide what to have for lunch. Having worked at that location for years and having tried all possible kinds of food around the office, you can perhaps understand how sick and tired she is of eating... yes, ironic, isn't it, when eating is supposed to be enjoyed and not just tolerated? If you work in an office, I should think you would be able to empathize. :P Normally, lunches would be had in cliques or departments. Unless you pack lunch or have appointments with clients, you are going to be eating with your favorite "lunch gang". So whichever groups are running low on ideas, they will just make use of the dartboard to decide. Are you the head of the pack who dictates where and what to eat? Or do you go by a majority vote? Or do you make use of the dartboard or something similar? If you do not work in the office, who decides the menu in your house, be it for lunch or for dinner? Do share your thoughts. ;-)

In my office I never brought lunch, it was wuite a rare occassion if I had a box, we used to order from outside all the time, we were a rat pack of 14-15 people from various departments and positions and since most of the people were older they often used to let me order I used to have a the Menu cards of 6-7 places and I used do a roulette kind of thing (removing the menu card of the day before) and which ever menu card my hand hit was the place from where the food came from. But all that fun went off after the comapny employed a caterer who supplied food so much cheaper and it was presented at the lunch table well laid out it seemed like a army mess, but after a while we got bored of it and went back to Roulett-ing and gambling with our meals everyday. It was much fun and such a long time ago.....thanks for the discussion Wizzy!:)

Hubby and I are lucky, we get an hour for lunch and live close enogh to be able to go home. We scavenge the fridge for leftovers. We talk about supper and decide together what we will have. Sometimes, I'm nice and fix his lunch too but ususally he gets his own and I get mine. I keep sandwich foods on hand too just incase. His office does birthday lunchs and the birthday person decides where to go for lunch. Usually spouses are invited too. The birthday kitty pays for the birthday persons lunch and everyone else pays there own.

That is great! I bet it is really nice to be able to come home with your husband and have a nice, but quick lunch. My mom usually decides by herself what we are going to eat for dinner. It get really hard for her sometimes, or she forgets because she is sooo busy! :) We really appreciate it though!!

When it comes to eating out in the restuarant, we (me and my hubby) both decide where to go and what to eat. First we decide where to go and if we have gone so many times to that restuarant and know about all that they have in the menu, then we sometime play with the menu. Like close your eyes and keep your finger on the menu and where the finger goes we go with that dish lol. But at home I always ask hubby what he would like to eat for dinner. Because I feel more comfortable making the menu when he tells me what to eat, otherwise I feel like I just lost myself in the middle of the options I have in my fridze and in my mind lol. But sometime I also do like whatever I can see at the very first in the fridze when I open it I go with that and make any dish with that stuff.

If you are referring to when eating out at a restuarant, it kind of depends. Most of our eating out experiences involve the family. So if an eating out is going to include my parents, there is no real discussion or choice, as we always go to "Fresh Choice". My parents like it because it is cheap & there is a large choice of foods. If it is just my husaband & I our choices are limited, as my husband has all these food allergies. So we need to go a resturant that serves plain steak, etc, not Chinese. Then if the eating out involves my husbands family, we have to go where they dictate, which is usually somewhere in the northen suburbs, about one hours drive away. So, all in all, I don't get much choice.

I use to play darts "for fun" a long time ago. I'm very much an amateur and because I worked part time at a bar, darts was one of their main sports that they participated in so I was more or less roped in because I was part of the staff. In terms of choosing what we (my family) eat for dinner, I do most of the cooking, so depending on what I feel like, whether I want to cook something easy or something that takes a bit of time, that is what we would eat for dinner. Sometimes I would ask my hubby what he feels like, but most of the time I choose our dinners. If we go out, its a decision we both make, and sometimes we do ask our son what he feels like eating as well.

I used to have a dartboard at home but we dumped it after no one wanted to play anymore. I had fun having darts shot into my hand too. LOL :P

Whenever I'm with my boyfriend, we can decide right away where and what do we want to eat especially if we are very hungry already. If I'm with my friends or my officemates, I would suggest the best place or restaurants where we could eat and whatever the majority wants, that's fine with me as long as their prices are enough for my budget. lol :)

Darts! I thought...what does darts have to do with food just like you said. I guess that is a way that you could really choose it at random. I would just pull it out of a hat or something...I would have never thought to shoot darts! LOL :) I think that my mom is the head of the pack that dictates what we are going to eat. Sure, sometimes I help her, or my dad says what he wants or doesn't want...but my mom does most of the deciding of what to eat. :)

I work in a small office, so usually if we're ordering from somewhere, we all go for the same place, and just one person goes to pick it up. We pretty much spend our entire morning at the bank trying to decide where we are going to eat! I think I'm going to suggest trying this dart board approach! We'd be a lot more productive workwise if we could make this decision quicker. =p

I don't play darts, I've only played darts once actually. I usually already have a pretty good idea of what I want to eat, I don't use a dart board to pick, but it does sound like a great idea for an office setting, like you said.

Oh, I know that, too. While I used to work for a large company, some employees did that dart board thing or by picking from a deck of cards without looking. It is different with them though, it was to determine whose turn will it be to pay for the lunch they are going to have. There is a limit as to the total amount the guy will be paying for and the balance (if ever there will be) shall be divided equally among the others. When I chose to stay home, I still allow my children to decide as to what to cook for lunch or dinner. There are times though when they will ask me to have my turn. Dining is never dull for us except when we eat out. Most diners now offer delicious but unhealthy foods.

It is SCARY to work in that company. You have to buy everyone lunch? :P But I guess with the rule you mentioned, it is probably workable... but what's the point? No different from going dutch. :P

I hardly spend time on deciding what to eat. I eat food cooked by the mess-hall, so I don't even get to decide what to eat. I simply eat whatever they cook up and thankfully, they cook good stuff. In the rare event that I'm bored of eating from my mess, I just hit the local eatery and order whatever grabs my fancy. I usually go out to eat alone. If I'm accompanied by friends, we still don't order for each other. We order whatever we would like to have and split the bill. I guess I'm not too particular about what I eat, and neither are my friends. We just eat to survive! For fun, we go out boozing!

I used to love playing darts when I was younger, it was a favourite pub pastime along with pool. However I have never used it to decide what to eat. I work from home and at the moment there is just me and my son so we decide between us. We have a list of favourite meals that we enjoy so we try to shop to have these ingredients in. We used to just shop and buy what we fancied while out shopping but always seemed to end up with stuff we didn't eat etc. So we think the new system much better.

no my mother decide what to eat today i only give my approval. if i dont approve it makes no meaning to her. she doesn't bother about me and makes what ever she wants. but some times she listens to me and i have my favorite food. usually it doesn't matter if i like the food or not i have to take it as its good for me. but if i am out i'll become wild, i would eat any thing i like. usually plenty of ice cream.

Nothing like playing darts or using a coin to toss over for the options available. At office, we have to eat whatever is available in the canteen and at home whatever is made by my mom...

Ok, I think this calls for various responses because I do have various experiences. I just hope you won't get bored in reading this though :D Well, when I was still a student (when I still live with my family), each member of the family can suggest the menu at home. You see, I love my mom's cooking (I just wish I had her talents); thus, she can cook almost anything you ask her to. So, we can sweetly tell her, "Oh Mom, I just saw this article about a fish sauteed in olive all, sprinkled with yummy...... blah blah... Can we try it? Please?" She'll smile and say, "Not now honey" then I'll wait for a few seconds before she continues with "We'll have to get ingredients first, wanna go to the grocery with me?" Ahhh! what a wonderful life. (Darn! Now I miss my Mom!). In school, my friends and I would eat at the school canteen or sometimes in a mall's foodcourt. I always know what I want to eat. I'm not the type whom friends would ask "What do you want to eat?" and answers back, "I don't know, what are you getting?". Nope, I always say, "I just want pizza for now, what about you?". I ask questions so that we can compromise. I mean, I'm not bossy, I just know what I want, so I should also consider other people's wants. Well, if we are in some place wherein a variety of food is served, it's ok. I mean, we can have a great time choosing what we want. But if we are to decide which specific place serving specific food to go, we will go with the majority. As of now, leaving alone and away from my family, I am used to dining alone, so there's not much of a struggle. Except of course if my left brain wants pasta while my right brain wants rice, hehehe. I still go out with my bestfriend (who is living by herself too in Cebu) and we also compromise on where we must dine. Afterall, my stomach and taste buds are easy to satisfy, and my friend has got good taste.... :-P
