Are you secure in your own home? Do you feel safe in your neighborhood?

I asked this because there are some people who are very comfortable not locking the doors of their homes. I've known quite a lot of them. There are some, though, who have secure locks installed in their homes, have security systems, and would never leave their doors unlocked whenever they would leave their house. How about you? I also want to have an insight as to what kind of neighborhood you live in. Happy myLotting!

When I was growing up my parent's door was always open in summer time to let the fresh air come in. In the winter it was closed but not locked until the evening. I never heard of security systems and the children used to play in the neighborhood with other kids and even went to school by themselves. Now that is all gone with all the kids kidnappings. I always lock my door day and night and never let my child play outside without an adult supervision. We also have an alarm system that I always put on at night and when I leave my house.

Wow, that goes to show that times have really changed and people have been trying to secure their families from these changes. It is indeed dangerous nowadays, better be careful than sorry! Thanks for the response!

I am very secure here. I live in a mobile home park. We never have any problems with break ins or anything thing like that. The worst that we have ever had is someone who was drunk walking the down the street yelling. but moist of the time we feel safe.

since we were kids my parents told us to keep always the doors locked before going to bed to avoid thieves coming into the house. this has been our practice until now not to let the doors opened specially at night time. we live in a subdivision where people come and go and no security guards deployed at the main gate, so any person can just pass by. so it's really advisable for us to be alert anytime and by way of locking all the doors always is the best thing to do.

Yes, better safe than sorry. We would never know. Even the safest places have to be watched out for too, I guess. Thanks for the response!

My neighborhood is not a bad neighborhood. I do keep my doors locked and we do have an alarm system. When I was small our house got broken into and many things were stolen. I never want that to happen again. We also have a German Shepherd.

My neighborhood is very diverse. You have a lot of people from different countries that move to this area for some reason. There is also an immigration building on a main street where I live. I would not particularly like to walk around certain areas by myself. You have ignorant people that manage to be anywhere you are.

Yes, I guess when one is not familiar with his/her neighborhood, there is a need to be more vigilant. That would mean trying to keep yourself safe. Thanks for the response!

I feel very safe where I live. I live about 7 miles outside of a really small town that I grew up in in WI. I have a neighbor like 1/2 a mile down the road. We did have a rash of house robberies like 4 years ago and it turned out to be some kids who lived like 3 miles away. I still feel safe though. I have a dog in the house with me who's an excellent watch dog. I do lock the doors however if it's night time and I'm home alone or when we leave the house just because we don't want to take any chances.

I live in what's considered to be a good neighbourhood, in a townhouse complex. Nevertheless, I always keep my doors locked when I'm home (day and night), and definitely when I'm out. We've had some breakins in our area, as well as the occasional home invasion. There have also been cars broken into overnight, and just this past summer, my daughter-in-law's purse was stolen from the floor of their car. The car was parked out in front of my home, and it happened in the morning. They'd just stopped by briefly to drop some things off, and in the time it took to do this, someone stole the purse. As it turned out, the thief was an undesirable character that was wanted by the police. He had an alias, and was described by a detective as someone you wouldn't want to 'run into'. He was later arrested in another part of the country, and brought back to our area, to answer to a number of charges. We've also had a couple of serious offenders realeased into our neighbourhood in the past few months, so it's better to be safe than sorry. Of course, there is also the theory that many people believe, which is, if someone wants to enter your home unlawfully, they'll find a way to do so.

I happen to be one who is comfortable with not locking my doors when I am at home. In fact, I opened the door wide, with only the door grilles locked. My family are not comfortable with my this habit. I just feel safe at home in bright day light, and when family members are around. If I am alone, I tend to close the door and stay indoors. I do not want strangers to come knocking on the door and I need to attend to them. I am more afraid of relatives popping by and I need to handle them alone :P

Are you afraid of ghosts, by any chance? Hehe. Just thinking maybe too many horror movies you had seen when you were a child. Anyway, I guess many people are afraid to be left alone in the house (especially at night) especially when they had gotten used to being with someone. Thanks for the response!
