Wow...I know, I'm woefully behind.
I've been meaing to read Ender's Game and the rest of the Ender books for ages and ages, but somehow, I never got around to them. Well...I recently got reminded of them when XM Sonic Theater started playing Ender's Game and I caught it in the middle. Well--I couldn't let that go, so I started at the beginning and have read the first three (Ender's Game, Speaker For the Dead, and Children Of the Mind). And I got totally drawn in, as I knew I would.
I've been a fan of Card's short fiction since encountering it first in 1986 or 1987 when "Hatrack River" showed up in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. (Yes, the Alvin Maker books are still on my list as well.) Anyway--Children Of the Mind did get a bit philosophical in places but was no less engaging. Now, XM Sonic Theater's playing Ender's Shadow, which I'm thoroughly enjoying (naturally).
BTW, if you haven't found the EscapePod podcast, I highly recommend it. Wonderful short audio fiction, about 100 stories so far, and a new one every week (I'm behind but have them all on my IAudio X5!) http://www.escapepod.org

I noticed you mentioned EG, Speaker, and Children of the Mind... I hope you didn't accidentally skip Xenocide, book 3 of the series.
Also, if you haven't gotten to them, the Shadow series was more along the style of Ender's Game, and those were also incredible books. Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, and finally Shadow of the Giant.

I just couldn't get into Children of the Mind, but I love the rest of the books. Have you read his "Homecoming" books yet - very engaging. But, my all time favorite book is "Songmaster." I discovered Card in the mid-'70's when "Songhouse" was printed by Asimov's. I've had the priviage of meeting Card at a couple of SF cons.

Yes I've been meaning to read the Ender's Game series as well. Also thanks for the Escape Pod info.
