Why are the candidates in the coming senatorial elections don't root out the cause of our poverty and ultimately the prevailing corruption on both local and national government? Is it because they are corrupt, accomplices of the corrupt,or simply don't understand why.

its because politicians are there to build a career, not serve. public service now takes a backseat, what they want is to win the position. they focus mainly on beating their counterparts to the point that they hit on each other

No matter how good a politician is, we must always remember that no one, no matter how good he/she is, is ever going to truly eliminate poverty in our country, no one can, no matter where they are, or what country they govern. The appalling reality which we are seeing right now: 'the hungry masses that continues to be overlooked by these so-called lawmakers' can make anyone doubt the competence of those people who are vying to be elected up where they think they deserve to be. The current situation just proves that the majority of people in the government before and even up to now are ineffective as opposed to what they can promise during campaign periods. The arrogance and the greed that emanates from the Philippine politics explains why our country is so messed-up in terms of its financial stability; let alone, the graft and corruption which seems to be the trend among the authorities that gladly hampers our progress and gives blemish to the title of 'one of the fastest growing countries in Asia.' As long as there are people up there who are seemingly willing and more eager to 'spend more on campaigns' than to shell-out money for apart from their own interests, there wouldn't be true contentment among the populace; this country is now old enough and wise enough to know when someone's doing something fishy, the only problem is, we are too happy fooling ourselves with our decisions on who to elect.

It is both, plus for there own self interest. With a 200 million peos pork barrel budget for each senator who won't risk life and limb to get a percentage of that money. You don't need to have a very intelligent mind to be elected. You just need charm. With 200 million budget you can just hire people to do the dirty work for you. You just entertain the people and create some no nonsense project and your ok.
