rabbit problem

I have noticed a rise in the local rabbit population. Generally I don't mind. We have a large lawn, and I don't mind the rabbits eating the grass and other wild plants. We have a fence around the vegetable garden that so far seems to be holding them out.
But, they did a great deal of damage to my fruit trees before I noticed and put fences around them as well. And now they are eating my tulips.
I know that rabbits don't like marigolds, but it is still too cold for them. What else can I do(beyond standing outside with a .22 rifle all day)?

You could try mounting a big fake bird of prey on your roof. That might scare them away, but I suspect that they would wise up to it eventually. Perhaps you could shoot a couple and leave the bodies strategically places to ward off their friends?
I tried to stop my pet rabbit from chewing furniture in the house, I even tried tabasco but my little bun must like hot & spicy table legs!
Goo luck, I hope you find a solution.
