The most feared thing about depression Is the denial of having It, Once knowing It's there. Depression Is a deadly disease unlike drug addictions, that takes control physically. Depression takes control mentally and denial will set In quickly to mask It's prescence. Communication Is the upmost way to combat depression. Depression Is at It's upmost peak when one chooses to attempt dealing with it alone.

Welcome to myLot, johndeese! You made some very valid points where depression is concerned. The saddest thing about depression, in my humble experience, is that most of the folks who are affected by it are completely unaware of it. Sometimes it takes the careful eye of a friend or family member, sometimes even a co-worker, to help the person realize that they even have a problem. By the way, I really like your avatar. It's very . . . serene. :)

First of all, let me welcome you to myLot,Johndeese, we are glad to have you here. Depression is a paticularily diffficut disease...and you are correct in the lack of ability to "deal with" this by oneself....there are some very good prescription medications that can do wonders in balancing the chemicals in the brain to make this disease mantainable....Communication can halp alot but since the cause of the depression is physical ( a chemical inbalance in the brain) then the only way to actually deal with this is to seek medical attention. I am not saying that a diagnoses of depression will always require treatment by pharmacutacological means..sometimes group or individual counseling can help tremendously.....learning ways to relieve the "stressors" in our life in a healthy manner instead of turning it internally can also benefit a person with depression. Don't give up hope if you have depression, if it is a family member or close friend, advise them to seek "help" from competent professionals as they have extensive training in helping a person find the best way to cope with the symptoms of depression. I hope that this has provided you with some help and again welcome to myLot......
