i paid child support to my ex..for our daughter from the time she was 14 til she was 18, when she turned 17 he apparently threw her out and she stayed with my family members, i was out of state working and kept in the dark about most of this. anyhow he has not been financially responsible for her since she was 17, yet he collected child support from me til she was 18. can"t she sue him for the money he received throughout that year? seems to me she is entitled to it not him. she is now almost 20 and ready to graduate from tradeschool and could use some money to start her new life....does anyone know anything to help me help her?

Yes, she can sue him for the child support money. He had no right to cash the checks or use it. What he did was illegal. Once he no longer had resonsiblity of the child is was breaking the law by cashing them checks. You need to get a lawyer and have him sue him. I seen a case of it on Judge Judy. Boy was the judge hot and about to throw the parent in jail for that. I suggest seeking legal help as soon as possible.

Welcome to myLot, wellkeptgirl! :) Oh, my, what a mess! Sadly, I am not a lawyer, but I do believe your daughter would have a valid case against her father if he was receiving money to support her buy using it on himself. My advice would be to see if you can find someone willing to do some pro bono work so you don't have to empty your bank account trying to get what's rightfully hers. I hope that helps. Hang in there. As my mother used to say, it's always darkest before dawn.
