I know a lot of kids that HATED vegetables, when they were young. Oddly, I was the off kid, who enjoyed my spinach (probably because I watched popeye so much) and salad. Now, days I actually enjoy all types, don't get me wrong I love meat as well. Just something that came to mind. So, did you eat your veggies as a kid?

I was an odd kid too I loved my veggies when I was a little one. Although I haven't long left the era of that age (still a teen lol. only just 18) I was what my family used to call a natural vegetarian! I would only eat chicken on the rare occassion. I would never eat any other meat. It was all veg veg veg! Lol. It runs in my family as my little brother is exactly the same. Although my partner has now got me into eating chicken and fish on a regular basis. I still cant stomach red meat and still absolutely love me veggies (especially spinach! lol)

Spinach :) Good woman. Make you strong lol. I honestly, don't think I would want to live without meat. I love red meat, chicken, fish, I will even try some deer sometimes. MMMMM! Deer jerky! :D I will always love my veggies though :) Specially, spinach :D

definatly. as a kid my mother would make sure that we had at least 1 type of veggie with dinner. and we had to finish our plate. even if we hated whatever was on there.
i remember once sitting at the dinner table for almost 3 hours refusing to eat...Spinach! lol i still cant stand the stuff. but i love all kinds of other veggies raw and cooked that i hated and just push through eating as a child.

You hated spinach??? What is wrong with you?? lol. Just kidding. I agree. I think we all have those foods we dislike. For me as a kid, I am sure it took years to get me to eat lima beans. BLAH! Can't stand them to this day. It is only natural.

My mother had difficulty feeding me any food when I was a kid because I had intestinal obstruction. Good thing it got to be treated medically. After that, my mother would have difficulty feeding me vegetables, because I only liked chicken, fish, beef, and pork. I had tons of vitamins to take to supplement my poor diet. My other sisters didn't have this problem. I started appreciating vegetables when I was in college. Our dining place served sauteed vegetables with meat, and it was then that I learned how to appreciate the taste of veggies. Happy myLotting!

I can understand this. I have a niece that it isn't just veggies that she doesn't like, but food in general. She will eat probably only, once a day. I hope she grows out of this. I am glad you did as well.

I also used to hate veggies a lot when I was kid. My mom used to scare a lot telling that if we don't eat veggies we won't grow. and we will suffer a lot when we will be old. lol Now as I have a nephew and my mom tells her the same things which she used to tell me. I can't stop smiling after every lecture she gives to my nephew. I never used to like spinach and my mom then used to cook it by diferent methods so that there would be no taste of spinach in the food.

I think I'm an anomaly, because I actually ate more vegetables as a child than I do now! I loved peas and green beans as a kid. Now I often find myself wondering... does salsa count as a vegetable? There is a serious lack of the green stuff in my diet!

My youngest son is just like you. He'd rather have an all vegetable diet rather than have meat. He loves to eat fish and vegetables rather than any meat until this day. He is already 19 years old but, his taste for food has remained like this - since childhood.

I would have to say that salsa isn't considered a vegetable in its own. I mean it does have many greens in it. Weither or not you eat vegetables is not my concern. Yet, I think a good "balanced" diet is good.

I have an uncle like that. If we go to have a family get together if we all eat at the table (which we don't do EVERYTIME, just once and a while) he makes all the kids finish their plate before they leave. I naturally do, nowdays. But the kids still love to argue :)

I really loved carrots, peas, and green beans as a kid. I also liked salad, as long as I could get the only dressing I liked on it (Italian). I'd make a salad with way more tomatoes than anything else. =p
However, I couldn't stand broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, spinach and such. I still can't stand most of those things but...
When I was pregnant with my son, I suddenly got this crazy craving for broccoli: in soup, or with cheese sauce, or even just broccoli. The first time my husband saw me order broccoli cheese soup in a restaurant he accused me of being a pod person. I still love broccoli now, even though I had my son almost a year ago! =)

lol. That is cool. To this day, I still can not stand broccoli, unless it has something with it. Steamed with cheese, raw with ranch, never straight.

Evryone in the family where I came from had no difficulty in taking/eating vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are always a part of our daily routine. We used to live in a farmlot which abounds with fresh fruits and vegetables aside from the fowls and the animals which were raised by my parents.

I wish I could grow my own vegetables. I have only had store bought. I think it might help to have fresh fruits and vegetables, for the fact, they are FRESH. I will definitely look into growing some fresh foods.

While growing up, my grandmother didn't teach me and my siblings how to eat veggies. She will normally served any meats on the table. I started to learn how to eat veggies when I reached University. You could imagine how much time wasted not knowing how to appreciate veggies.
Right now, I make sure to serve veggies everyday. I like to train everyone in my family. I'm still struggling with some veggies. My topmost favorite is broccoli and the most I hated is bitter gourd.

I think veggies should be a must. Same as meat though. I think all food has it's purpose. Even if you don't like red meat, I think everyone should eat something, chicken or fish. Whatever. But all food has a nutritional value. And should be appreciated.

I think I never gave too much trouble to my mother about eating vegetables. What I didn't like was fat meat, and today I can't eat fat meat.

Oh yes, veggies were a part of our diets from an early age. Although I grew up in the Bronx, NY we were able to get fresh veggies all the time. We had a grocery store, but my mom was used to shopping at a butcher, a fruit/veggie store, a deli, a bakery, even a store that sold fresh made pastas and cheeses.
Anyway, to eat fresh veggies helps you to enjoy them. We ate a lot of salads with olive oil and vinegar dressing (no bottled), fresh corn on the cob, broccoli with olive oil and garlic, green beans, peas, etc.
Helping my mom prepare the fresh veggies was fun too. We'd shell the peas, shuck the corn so that it felt like we were helping prepare the meal. My father even had a veggie garden in our little backyard in the summer. Nothing like fresh tomatoes off the vine. We'd eat them like fruit.

I wasn't a big vegetable fan. I loved artichokes and corn but not much else. Of course, most of the vegies we ate were frozen or canned from the grocery store. I still don't care much for these. I am a vegetarian now and grow my own food. It is absolutely delicious! There is nothing like going out with a basket and gathering dinner right from the plants. My kids love vegies as well. My son eats spinach because popeye does :):). It really is too funny.

I did not like vegetables very much when I was a child, just did not like the taste of it. But over the years, I have grown to love eating vegetables. Broccoli is also one of my favourites. Other vegetables that I like are all kinds of green leafy veg, cabbage, lettuce, okra, eggplant and carrots. I try to eat at least 2 servings every day.

As a kid, my parents couldn't keep me away from broccoli. And I don't mean uncooked stems that you dipped in some sauce. I mean cooked broccoli. I loved it! It's just too bad one time they let me eat too much and I threw up. After that, I haven't touched broccoli.

I am not really picky, i eat almost everything edible. While growing up, we were used to having vegetable dishes everyday,so we never have a choice but eat it. I like vegetables, any kind actually, i would eat it all as long as it is not overcooked and still pleasant to the eyes.
I am glad i did because the veggies made me healthy i rarely get sick.

My parents never had a problem with me eating my veggies as a kid. I loved them and I still do! The only veggie I wouldn't eat then that I love now is brussel sprouts. When I was a kid I called them little green brains and I'd cringe at the thought of them, now I love them their one of my faves!

Yes, but only because I was forced too! I wasn't allowed to leave the table until I finished all my food to include the veggies! Now as an adult, I like very plain salads (lettuce, tomato, cucumber and some oil and vinegar dressing), brocolli, corn and carrots. That's about it. I dont mind raw spinach in salads either, never had it cooked though. Now, I don't really make my kids eat the veggies, they just have to try a bite and if they dislike it they don't have to eat it, although my 5 year old requests a salad with dinner every night, so he's on the right track!
