Cats rubbing up against your legs.

We have 2 cats in the house. We just love looking at them specially when they are being playful making mad dashes around the house while chasing one another. But one trait i do not like with them is their rubbing up against my legs. I'm really annoyed by this trait they have. How about you? Have you thought why cats do this rubbing up against your legs? What do you do with them when they start to rub up?

you must be a cat lover. maybe next time when they do that to me i'll try to understand their feelings, too. thanks for the positive thought.

Sometimes I got annoyed too by there rubbing in my legs especially when I'm doing something and I got to step on them and they will scream and I will fall on floor. I'm not a big fan of cat cause I got a bit of fear with there falling hairs. But its fine with me to have one.

i am not a cat lover actually, but with the tips and pieces of advice by some of my friends here, i think i am beginning to like them now. cats are very affectionate, and by their rubbing up against my legs just shows that cats need our attention, too.

They love you and are showing their affection, they are marking you as "their territory". They have scent glands behind their ears, on their shoulders and at the base of their tails. Next time they rub against you just watch them and they will use these areas.

I like cats but not a big lover of them. We have owned them before, but i prefer a dog. I dont really like them rubbing up against your leg, and i would usually push them away. I think they do it so they get attention. Best wishes to you ryan

thanks kayrod2 for dropping by. i am not a big lover of cats either but i've learned something from cat lovers here in mylot the way to appreciate the warmth and tenderness the cats are showing to us like the peculiar trait of rubbing up themselves against our legs. they, too are like us which need care and attention.

We also have cats at home and yes I do hate it when they're starting to rub up against your legs. Maybe cats are doing this because they like or appreciate your company . LOL! Well, maybe they're just to be friendly by that gesture.;)

that's true. cats want to get our attention just like humans do. it's a gesture of caressing.

The are putting a scent on you to claim their ownership from their pheromones so that any other cat knows you belong to them ...so keep off!

Actually, that's cat's way of showing his affection to his mater. We have different reaction to that. I love them when they rub my legs. Only, I don't like cat as pet. I don't like the smell of their poo-poo & wee-wee. I'd rather have pet dogs.

with your remarks, i think i shall start to care for them too. i really don't like cats because they make a lot of noise, they just litter around, and they do that rubbing up always on my legs. but things have changed, with the tips and pieces of given here by my friends, i think i'm gonna love and give attention now to the cats.thanks.

OH yes, Oh how I hate that. We were so lucky with the cat we have now. She was not affectionate at all. I love that because I could grab her for a cuddle when I wanted but she wouldn't stay long and take off. She loved to be in our presence but not to close. We had her for about 6 years when my husband decided to force her into longer cuddles and massages. Guess what.. the last few years she is often coming up and rubbing against our legs. My husband doesnt' mind but I hate it. The other thing is we didn't use to feed the cat any where except her food dish in her corner of the house. I notice that when we start the habbit of giving her little bits of meat on the kitchen floor also encouraged her to start this rubbing. So between those tow things.. I have a cat that likes to rub up against me.

so it's not only me who hate this rubbing up. I found a companion. but you see, i am starting to think. isn't it because i am not affectionate that they are coming back to me and rub up my legs?

I have learned somewhere that cats rub their bodies against our legs because they are rubbing their scents on us. I actually like it when cats do this, I just allow them to do it since it's their instinct and they are really not doing me any harm.

you mean they want me to be like them, too? LOL, kidding aside, cats really are too affectionate. there are times only that i don't like them to come near me specially when i am stressful. anyways, thanks for the info.

My cats rub against me when I go near their feeding stations! Obviously they want to be fed. But most of the time my cats rub against me when I give them a massage, especially around their ears!
