If you consider yourself a religious moderate . . .

. . . . how does your religion affect your daily life and your relationships with others who may not belong to your religion?
I've been feeling a bit disillusioned lately. In my offline life, I get along quite well with the practicing religious people I know (I am an atheist), but we tend to avoid discussing religion. I only have one Christian friend who is close enough to really have an open discussion about our different beliefs.
I realize that on the internet, we are often exposed to the kind of extremism (both theistic and atheistic), that we hopefully rarely have to deal with in person.
I just wonder sometimes if the heated religious discussions I've seen here are what people are really thinking under a moderate surface, or if people who do consider themselves moderate just avoid such discussions, or enter in with the occasional "voice of reason" comment.
Do you feel sorry for people who don't believe the same way you do, or dislike associating with them? I think sometimes after seeing so many negative comments here, I feel like there's an impossible gap between me and my religious friends. I don't want there to be though.

Not sure what you mean, if by extreme you mean the so called religious right I am not sure that religion is their main motivation. Nor like many religious people do I think there is necessarily a conflict between reason and faith.
all the best urban

Well, my religion affects my life everyday, every time I feel the wind blow, here the birds sing. I am Pagan and our religion is based on nature. Everything around us contains a magickalness. I always speak my mind when it comes to religion, no matter what anyone else thinks. I speak of it like this, you can believe in whatever you want to beleive just as long as you have faith in your belief. Even you, being atheist, you believe in no God or Goddess, you believe in no heaven or hell, so that is your faith. If someone wants to start a debate of religion, I think that it is ridiculous. Just be happy with the way you practice and don't worry about what others do, and certainly do not judge them for their beliefs.
