How scary is that??!! No..I don't have rats, but I can remeber as a little girl a rat came in our home and had a litter of baby rats or mice. Talk about a nervous reck. My mom was clearing mouse traps ever day.
Those rats are not scared of you either. I can remeber going in the kitchen and it ran right towards me and I ran the other way screaming.
My mom had to get an exterminator out to kill it. It took along time to get rid of that succa. Am I the only one scared of rats. Are men scared of rats?

Thank goodness I've never came face to face with a rat. Other than in a pet store. They are so ugly. I am not a big fan of them and would be upset to say the least if one got into our home. I don't like mice either and we have had to deal with them once. We bought a cat(we like cats) and now we have had no more problems.

What a good question you have asked. I also wonder why girls are so much scared of rats and cocroackes. I think it is a really partiality made by God as I have not yet found any boy being scared of rats and cockroaches.

I'm not scared of rats or cockroaches.
I suppose it may be as boys are more likely to play in barns and get used to rats and bugs.
being a country girl, I got used to insects and rats and mice, and slow worms, and I'm really not bothered by them.
on the other hand, china dolls terrify me. they look so sinister

rats and mice are two completely different species.
a baby rat is called a kitten, not a mouse.
I don't really have much of a problem with rats. I've had lots of pet rats, and they really are fantastic animals. clean, intelligent, affectionate. they enjoy human company and contact. if you come near her cage, my rat will climb up to be let out for a cuddle.
wild rats, I don't think of as being scary or unpleasant. we have some living in a few outbuildings, and live and let live, I think. they're not near our food, they're not damageing our property, not doing us any harm at all so I leave them to it.

in England.
like I said, I do what I can to keep the wild rats out of my house iteself, but we have a few stone outbuildings where we have rats, and they aren't doing any harm there. if they were living in my house I would find ways to get rid of them. although I would avoid using rat poison as it is an absolutely agonising way to die, that I wouldn't inflict on any living creature.
country rats are generally cleaner than city rats, as they tend to live in outbuildings rather than bins and sewers, and as I said, they're not IN my house, so I leave them to it, live and let live. they're not an inherently "bad" animal. as far as I'm concerned, the word Vermin is overused. I take it to mean an animal that is somewhere a human (another type of animal, at the end of the day) doesn't want them to be.
my pet rats I've had over the years live indoors, in a decent sized pet cage, and are really lovely to have around. I've won a few fervent rat haters over to at the very least admitting that "tame ones are quite cute I suppose" by introducing them to my girls.
while the domestic rats are a different type to the wild ones, deep down they are the same animal. and while I may not want a wild rat in my home, I don't really see it to being that different to not wanting a feral cat in my house. I don't think the animal is bad, or nasty or frightening. and if they aren't in my house and harming my food or property, then live and let lice, they aren't doing any harm.

This is all new to me. I have heard of people having hamsters and I never cared for those because they remind me of rats. I guess a person would have to get to know them. I would never have a snake or lizard as a pet but people do. To each it's own..
They may be cute and loveable, I really can never see myself petting one...lol

Well this is a funny one. A long time ago when I was a small boy(this was back in my old house), I remember having rats almost the size of a cat. It was scary to me(not afraid of rats anymore), I was even afraid to go down stairs in the night when the lights were off in my house. We knew thats when they came out.

My recently passed away rat came to us by walking through the open front door. He was a domesticated rat, made obvious by being a white rat with pink eyes and very tame - if it had been a wild rat, we would have chased him back out rather than keep him. He was always full of love and joy, and being older wanted nothing more than to cuddle up in your lap and be petter. Sweet little guy - may you rest in peace.

Very huge rats haven't entered our house very often. The smaller ones called as mice do come in though and they don't get into the traps as well. They have to be poisoned otherwise they will spread havoc by gnawing at books and other valuable stuff. They even pose risk by gnawing on the domestic gas pipe. I was never afraid of them as such. once a mouse wasn't responding to the poison cakes so once when I saw it climbing up a wire, I went and grabbed it with my hand with an intention of throwing it outside the window. But it bit my ring finger and it started bleeding little bit. So I'm cautious after that. I don't catch mice with bare hands! lol

It's wierd, I am not afraid of rats or mice at all because I know that they cannot hurt me. But when it comes to certain insects that can fly or jump high I am scared. I guess I'm not afraid of rats or mice because I know that they will probably not touch me, and if they do, it will only be my feet. If I see a large grasshopper or something though I know there is a possibility of it hitting me in the face which is a scary to me.

This discussion caused me a little chuckle because of what I experienced about 4 years ago. We were living on the edge of my uncles tomato farm, and when he plowed his back fields, we got a visitor. I was on the computer, looked into the kitchen, and sitting on my counter top was a big rat! Me and my husband went to the store and bought a couple rat traps, which did not work! 2 days later I waited up, baited the darn thing, and when it came out for the food, I shot it! I used my husbands 22 which had rat shot in it. Unfortunately part of the bb's hit my new oak kitchen table, the stove, and the counter. LOL but I did get the rat! I guess now I am a true Redneck! Since my husband didn't get to involved, I'm assuming he might have a fear of them, but I didn't ask!

I guess if it was a wild rat, I'd be afraid of it. Mostly because you don't know where they are, how many or when they're going to surprise you. But I actually have 4 rats in the cages next to my computer. My nephew had 2 that he thought were both boys, and they weren't. His mom gave us 13! We had 2 snakes and she thought they could eat them. But the snakes eat much smaller mice, so the rats were just running around in their cages (separately!). We gave most to a local pet store, and kept 2 of each. Now we want to get rid of these last ones, so we'll take them up there this afternoon. They stay in their cages, and they're actually kind of fun to watch. They're a lot like hamsters or gerbils. Smelly if you don't clean the cages, but not scary. Course, they stay in the cages! LOL!

Nope I'm not scared of rats, I ate a field rat before when I use to live back in my country. The only scary thing about rats is the worry that that might be infested with ticks and fleas and may spread all over your house. Or another thing that might be scary is that fact that some of these rats may have rabies and if they bite you, you'll be really really sick.

I am a man and i never get scared when I see a rat. I don't have rats at home, but I see them many times in factories. Rats won't attack me so I am not scared when i see them. I think they are funny.
If you don't have rats at home, don't kill them =)
