Children of alcoholic mothers

I am the adult child of a mother who was an alcoholic. Unfortunately, she died on Thanksgiving 2005 when she was 44 of liver failure from cirrhosis - she basically drank herself to death. Now as a mother, I'm finding a hard time coming to terms with her death and learning how to be a mother myself since I never really had an adequate one. Is anyone else the child of an alcoholic mother and how have you handled it as a mother yourself?
