it depends on the situation, where i'm at or the person i'm talking to. Of course eye contact is very important during conversation but there are people who are just too nervous or that looking in the eye, they feel that they are being disrespectful. Compliments, it depends also who i'm talking, the background of this certain person i'm with for the first time.
