I have two miniature poodles and they bark a great deal. One has a very loud bark and the other a slightly quieter bark. They dislike the postman bringing letters. They alawys batrk when he passes by out front door. They bark whever anyone goes past out house. I say no but it just doesn't work.

Someone said something about a shock collar - that's cruel. There is a devise you can buy that plugs in to your power point & whenever your dog barks, it lets out a high frequency noise that only dogs can hear - they don't like the noise & after a short while they associate their barking with the annoying sound & that then causes them to stop. It's humane & very efficient - check with local vets, pets shops & such if you want consider getting yourself one! Good luck & i'm sure everything will work out ok!

Yes, I bought a battery operated box that lets out as high frequency noise. My dogs can hear it but to my ears it has a very low sound. I didn't like the idea of a shock collar. Many thanks.

I remember having a postman once who always had some kind of treat with him. Whenever he went to a house with dogs, he personally gave them treats so they would come to recognize him and not bark so much ;)

It was a good idea. The postman was safe. Many dogs in the UK hate the postman, but not if he has a treat hey.

Little dogs are yappy dogs anyway. The only thing I think you can do is to teach them. Get some treats, and when the posties comes by get their attention with the treats. If they dont bark then give them the treats. This may take about a week but be consistant and Im sure they will stop barking within no time.

what about a shock collar? i know that sounds mean, but i don't think hurts them too much and chances are it will train them fast and then you won't have to use them anymore.

No!!! LET YOUR DOG BARK. Don't stop them from barking. I think its inhumane of people to stop their dogs from barking simply because its the nature of the dog to bark. If you stop your dog from barking then what happen if one day there is a robber outside your house. How would you know that, unless your dogs bark to warn you. You have to remember that its in their nature to bark at things and if you stop them from doing that, it just messes them up. I allow my dog to bark at things and allow him to be free. He feels unrestricted, yet he knows what not to do and what is acceptable. PEOPLE LET YOUR DOG BARK. THEY ARE YOUR ALARM SYSTEM !!

Yes, they are a good alarm system. But it is not only me living in this area. My neighbours get very cross. Once my dogs barked in the night and my next door neighbour sent a nasty letter about this to the local council.

miniature dogs always bark a lot.it's difficult to stop them.especially they saw a stranger passed by. maybe you can give them kind of punishment if they keep barking.
