A few hours ago, I saw my neighbor approaching me. Instantly, I was hit by the perfume she's wearing. Its really strong and I feel like she bathe herself in it. I happened to have a very sensitive nose and started sneezing.
I know that there's a proper rule in wearing perfume. Like a drop or two behind our ears and our inner wrist. In my opinion, I find it ridiculous that some people needed to wear their perfume all over their body.
How do you use your perfume then? Is it lightly or heavily? Can you stand being with a person wearing a strong perfume? Or you don't like to wear any perfume at all? Do share your thoughts.

When i was hunger, i used to suffer a lot with travel sickness. The one thing that would set me off on a bus is when some one got one with really strong perfume, i would have to get off because i felt so sick.
My mam is really bad, she starts coughing really bad if some one is near her with loads of perfume.

Well I probably have to say "guilty as charded" here! I adore perfume, and even though I prefer light, flowery scents, I know I do use quite a lot of perfume - some may say too much. As to why - I don't know why - I guess it just makes me feel nice. Sorry Bunny:-((

I dont like people that wear real strong perfume. They must be covering something up.LOL I only wear body sprays that make you smell fresh and clean. I think thats all we really need. Or maybe these people are trying to tell us to stay away from them.LOL And thats the reason they wear strong perfume.LOL

I don't wear perfume usually. But sometimes, I will. And it would just be lightly as you say. The wrist and the ears. Sometimes if I use the spray kind of perfume, I will spray a mist and walk through it.
If the perfume is overpowering, then it may be uncomfortable.. especially if you don't like the smell.

Now that dispels another myth... I did not imagine a user called lordwarwizard wearing perfume or at least admitting to it.

I don't mind it if I have bear a strong perfume for a few minutes at all since I do not have a sensitive nose or allergies but I feel bad for people who have sensitivity to smell and allergies. I wear my perfume mellow and only someone who comes near me can smell it! It is the best way to divert my man's attention to me(yeah naughty). So my perfume can not hurt anyone standing 1-2 feet away!
I also tend to wear perfumes that last and last. not the wimpy ones that smell the first 10 mins and then go pouff after that. So that's me dear :)

I know dear and I understand too my mom and my brother have extreme allergies they suffer from asthma and my mom particularly is very sensitive to smell and sultry weather. So neither my dad nor any of us wore perfume while growing up I started using perfume only after I started working and so I would always wear the mellow long lasting ones, the kind that can not smelled while riding up in a elevator or standing 3 feet away. I prefer the mellow ones and I feel it also helps others who have to tolerate me for quite while (incase they are sensitive to strong perfumes).

I seldom wear perfume, unless it is light florals. I had a friend in college who told me that my fragrances made her ill because of her allergies, and I really took it to heart. We periodically ask the choir members to remember not to wear fragrance, because some people cannot sing when they are around fragrance. It also stinks really bad to have several fragrances on hot sweaty bodies, wearing choir robes and singing enthusiastically. The only thing that stinks worse is a smoker, sweating, who is wearing perfume. I do use fragranced bath products and powders, but not so much that it disturbs my friends. I do not like it when you can smell someone coming.

some people have uncontrollable body odour even when they bath and they try hiding it with perfume.

Oh but this is just rank...yucky! I once worked with a woman..don't know what she did but she would just start to reek of really strong BO. She'd have to go to the ladies and apply body spray. She must have forgotten to put deodorant on that day or something. Thank goodness she always kept the stuff in her locker.

I don't mind strong perfume but I know that it is actually DANGEROUS for some other people to be around those who wear copious amounts of fragrance.
Some people are highly allergic to the chemicals used in perfumes and even hair, skin and other grooming products! People who have very sensitive allergy symptoms can become very sick - even requiring emergency care - if they happen to get around someone who wears a lot of 'fragrance.'
I'm glad I'm not allergic or highly sensitive like that - I'd hate to be walking down the street and have an asthma or other kind of allergy attack just because someone came near me who was wearing a lot of fragrance.
People SHOULD BE ABLE to wear what they want - but people should also not have to deal with possible risk to their health. This topic actually made me have to think more about 'perfume.'
I think that, though I wear it sometimes, I will be sure to use it reasonably - just in case others around me do have allergies (especially common in the CITY where there are a lot of pollutants anyway that affect peoples' allergies). I will be more aware, from now on that I might effect someone else if I 'go nuts' applying perfume!

Very well said, newbiehelper. I happened to be one of those people who are terribly allergic with perfume. When they said that they are getting dizzy or start to vomit, they are not lying. I only hope that more people should be aware about the disturbance they are causing while dabbing heavily on perfume. :)

No I don't like someone who wear far too many parfume. I got dizzy when I smell them doesn't matter whether it's suppose to be a nice smell or not when it's too strong it's got to go. I personally only wear parfume on special occassion otherwise I only put on deodorant. Have a nice day...

I don't put much perfume on myself and don't like it too overpowering on others. I do wonder though if perfume is supposed to be an attraction for the opposite gender why women's perfume is all flowery. Should we not be wearing scents that men like? Actually, at work there are a couple of men that have rather nice aftershave. I don't work so near that I have to smell it all the time (I think that would make me sneeze) but it is nice when they pass our area.

it is unhealthy to wear perfume, any amount. the chemicals in perfume could kill a person. my mother has a condition called multiple chemical sensitivities. if she comes into contact with someone wearing perfume, she gets very ill. i hate that people wear perfume in schools. kids do not need to smell that all day. studies have shown that the chemicals in perfume, among other things, cause learning disabilities as well as hyperactivity. so if your child's teacher wears a lot of perfume, you should ask her politely to not wear it or if she wont comply, go to the principal. it is your right as a parent to request such a thing. i also hate when people wear perfume to drs offices. when you are sick, the last thing you need to be smelling is that. so as you can tell..i do not wear any perfume, ever. it is just a healthier way to be for yourself as well as the people around you.

Oh, I can totally empathize. I also get very ill. I agree that kids shouldn't be smelling those scents. As I stated in my posting, most of these scents smell like a chemical then anything. They aren't even pleasant smelling. They smell more like they should be used to kill bugs, then anything. I personally think they should be banned. I think that is why so many people have allergies today. It is the perfumes, and smells in shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc. People didn't have the allergies they have today. As for doctors office, I know exactly what you mean. I think doctor offices should ban perfume, and tell patients, do not wear any scents. I have one Doctor who has that policy, and it is so nice to go in without having to smell it. I will smell a skunk any day, rather then smelling those god awful scents.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother's condition, mama4kids. I was born with a lot of allergies too. It is not something that's easy to deal with but I learn to face it. I understand what crickethear are saying too. You wouldn't believe the trouble I went through to buy products that are chemical free. The countless visits to my allerologist through the years are too much. Thank you both for sharing. :)

thank you both for sharing!! it is important for people to realize that perfume is just polluting the environment and hurting people around them, as well as themselves later on. i wish everyone agreed with us. and thank you for your kind words about my mom. she struggles day to day with her allergy problems because of chemicals.

It's like the stand in joke about getting suffocated by the fumes when you go into a store and you have to pass the perfumery counters on the way to the rest of the store, you can avoid them, you have to hold your nose and make a mad dash run for it LOL! I had a woman at work who I swore probably bathed in stuff and it was a horrid smell too, the manager (guy) asked one of her female colleagues diplomatically to go easy on the old perfume, thankfully she did but she still reeked off it even after that! A few squirts yes but don't drown yourself in the stuff LOL!

i think its horrible when people do this. I mean is it a lack of intelligence, dont they know how to apply perfume? or are they trying to cover something up? I also dont think its just women who do it. Ive come across men who do it with aftershave. On my way to work, there is a man who gets on the bus and i swear you can smell him a few stops away, lol
blessed be

Well as long as I don't have to wear any perfume I won't cause sometimes it feels like sweat.
I only put perfume in my wrist and I will rub it and rub my wrist behind my ears. I don't like it when people have those oil base perfume cause usually those are the ones who have the strongest smell.
When someone with me have a very strong perfume I try to tell it nicely that I can't deal with the smell and excuse my self cause I get dizzy with strong smell.

sometimes the one wearing the perfume does not know that it has a strong odor . maybe because he has a poor sense of smell already or he simply does not know how to wear one.of course, i move away whenever i smell a strong perfume for women, most specially.if the person is one of my closest friends or relatives i would tell them so.

I cant stand strong perfume doses i have allergy towards them. I just would move away from the person who spray heavy perfumes. I do spray perfumes but of mild odor and very less in quantity.

I think it's a very subjective thing. If you are very sensitive to any scent, than any scent will appear strong to you. I like it when companies ask their employees to refrain from wearing any scent at all because some people are just very sensitive to it. However, if you want to wear a scent, just lightly spray the air in front of you and walk into the sprayed area and you are good for the day. If you can smell your own scent then you know you've applied too much.
