"It came to me that every time I lose a horse, they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new horse who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be horse, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown

That is a beautiful quote. Those of us horse lovers who have lost such a beautiful animal, such a part of our life, heart, and soul, we know how much it hurts to loose a part of our family...our beloved horses. But it is true, they contine to bring pieces back to our hearts that we have lost. However, each horse will remain one of their own and never ever be replaceable by any other horse.

Hello Elic, what a nice quote....I like horses,my son and daughter in law use to own horses...I use to live in back of them and they had one horse named "Prissy" she was so sweet and loving.Every morning she would come to my back door and i would give her an apple..she always looked forward to that apple.I got really familar with horses at that time.I use to be afraid of horses because they were so large, but not anymore.Actually they are just big babies, not harmful at all, they have their own personalities just like a dog or cat....She would come to me when I called her and she would stand by me and walk beside me....so I aquired a liking to horses at that time...They are wonderful pets and very loyal friends...

I have always LOVED horses ever since I was a young girl. My parents used to vacation every summer at a mountain ranch in CO. I started riding when I was about 6 yrs old only once a year. I looked forward to each summer when I would return to that special ranch and ride each day.
When I was a sophomore in High School my parents finally bought me a horse of my own. I had to board it at the owner's place. My lifelong dream had finally come true.
I sold my first horse and bought another one, a beautiful black and white paint. I loved her dearly. I rode her bareback a lot and she was very gentle. Then one day she became ill and we discovered she had "cancer." I couldn't afford the treatments she would need to maybe cure her, so I had to put her to sleep. A huge part of my heart was taken that day....
I never got another horse, but I will always love them just the same. They are wonderful animals and I envy those who still have them.

I will pass that along to two relatives who love horses. I thnk they are noble and majestic creatures, but I have always been a little afraid of them. I guess itis because they are so large.

I rode for years & years. And, having been stepped on, bitten, fallen off & kicked by them, I'll have to admit to a certain amount of caution around them too. Have to admit the kicking hurt the worst, but I never broke anything so I was lucky on my falls.

Thank you for that lovely quote! When I had to put my first horse down, I couldn't even talk about him without crying. Now, I have his picture on my wall and can think of our special times together with so much joy. The Lord has graciously provided me with 4 other wonderful horses since and each one that has gone on has taken a piece of my heart too. When this mare goes, I don't know if I'll get another since I'm 55 and it's getting harder to ride, but I will always treasure each and every memory of seeing the world from the back of a horse. No finer place to be.

Isn't that the truth! I knew when I read that quote I had to share it with other horse lovers. They will understand, even if nobody else does.
I do feel that some cats can do it and some dogs, but I've always felt that if you get to KNOW a horse, you will be affected by him or her.
