It is odd to talk about these, but I am a first time mom and I have few questions that i need to know just like: I have a seven months old baby, her poo is not on a regular daily habits he usually miss a day or two. I feed her with 4 oz. formula milk with every 3 hours interval. Her poo's color is black soft as a clay and with very pungent odor. IS it normal??? Just tell me so!

It's ok if she occasionally misses a day or two but not all the time. If all you're feeding her is 4 oz of formula every 3 hours, that's definitely not enough. A 7 month old is ready to eat more solids. You can feed her cereals, mashed bananas/potatoes/peas, etc. Is she gaining weight well?

Then, she should be ok if she's not showing any signs of discomfort, constipation, etc.

bowel movement, either for kids or adults, need not be daily... you have to observe what is normal for you... dont force your baby to poo if he doesnt feel like it... the food we eat also affect the characteristics of our waste... milk can produce very pungent odor in our bowels, and this is not limited to babies alone...

my pediatritian told me that it's normal for babies to skip days with bowel movements. as long as the consistency isn't real hard (that indicates constipation). their stools do get a more foul odor as they are introduced to more solid foods. i would say the color is due to iron also, but i wouldn't say that it's too much iron. how were her stats at her 6 month check-up? how long has this been an issue? have you called her dr? you should address your childs dr with any concerns no matter how often or how silly it seems, it helps your dr know your child and it helps you build a relationship with your childs physician. does she finish the 4 oz when she eats? maybe she needs some more. maybe she needs more veggies so she has more regular bowel movements. are you giving her dark veggies like spinich? those will make very dark stools.

Does your baby take anything but formula? A seven month old can be having some more solid food, like rice cereal or something. If the baby is taking formula every 3 hours she (he?) is probably hungry! The color doesn't sound like it is good. Most of the time it should be brown or even mustard colored. Does the baby cry a lot? Does she seem listless or in pain? It might not hurt to have her checked out by a doctor.

It could be any number of things. In my experience, at 7 months the baby should be pooping every day. Black poop means he is constipated or she/he is having too much iron in his/her diet. The odor could be caused from constipation as well. I would take your baby to the doctor to confirm, and they can give you something to assist with that. You didn't really say if the baby was fussy, or displaying any stomach discomfort.

My daughter was not on a regular schedule till I started feeding her yogurt. I found a brand called "Yo Baby" that even has the DHA added, cereal and fruit bits mixed in. Since I started giving her that, it took about 3 days to even out, but she poos about once a day... almost like clockwork. It might be something to look into. I found the yogurt at Wal-Mart.
