My first dog ever was a little Pomeranian, we bought 2 siblings from the same litter but we gave the female to another family when they started fighting. You wouldn't think Poms were vicious, but from what I've heard, they're not pretty when they fight, and this brother and sister seriously wanted to do damage to each other.
Later we got a cocker spaniel and a collie/german shepherd/husky cross, but the cocker had to be placed in a home since he wasn't good with kids and the Collie Cross was stolen.
There was a big period where we didn't have a dog and then we got an adult lab cross from the shelter who bit, so we gave him back and then we finally got a Siberian husky which started my family's love affair with dogs. My mom has no been showing, training, sledding and breeding Siberians for over 15 years but we had a few other breeds over the years. I personally owned an Irish Setter when I was younger, and we also had a Bouvier des Flandres and a few Golden Retrievers as dad's hunting dogs. When the Bouv passed away last year, Mom started looking into getting a Black Russian Terrier puppy imported to take her place as resident guard dog (Siberians are horrible watch dogs, and even worse guard dogs.. too friendly) but will probably wait until next year.
And when we ran a boarding kennel, we had these breeds stay with us:
Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Shelties, Belgian Sheepdog, Greyhound, Labs, Irish Wolfhounds, Poodles, Shar-Peis, Miniature Schnauzer, Pomeranians, Dachshunds, Great Pyrenees, Mastiff, Corgi, English Setter, Pugs, French Bulldog, Border Collie, Dalmatian, Boxer, Borzoi, Doberman Pinschers, Chow Chow, Alaskan Malamutes, Bernese Mountain Dog, Jack Russell Terrier, Fox Terrier, Afghans and very often we had other Siberian Huskies, Goldens and Bouviers come stay with us since we knew the breeds well.
And since I grew up in the dog fancy, there's not many breeds I haven't had experience with or at least seen in person. I freak people out.. my boyfriend and I will be walking and I'll see a dog and blurt out the breed.. hmm.. sort of like how he does with cars? :)

A good and interesting topic... I love dogs and right now my boyfriend and I own a male basset hound. We also have two domestic dogs. So we have three dogs all in all, by this coming June or July we are planning to get a female basset hound. I should say that dogs are truly man's best friend. I just wish I can also have a female princes type shih tzu in the near future because they look so cute.
