Being a seller on Ebay India ... Often I come across families where not wearing a Saree or rather wearing a Salwar Kameez or jeans after marriage is considered taboo though the scenario is changing fast. Seems like Salwar Kameez's are for the young ladies and sarees for the married:). Reason behind this seems that the saree is considered a more sober attire across majority! Was just pondering over things and want to think this loud .. A traditional Salwar Kameez covers the entire body very well under wraps..No part of the body is seen whereas in a Saree a lot more of the body is there for everybody to see .. Still what is the reason that Saree is considered more of a traditional attire that a Salwar Kameez?
Would like to get englighened on this ...

Well shine, the reason why women wear saree after marriage is because once a woman gets married, she loses her structure. So by wearing saree, she tries to get others attention ;P. HEY THIS WAS JUST A JOKE, SO DONT TAKE IT TO HEART.
I accept your point that by women wearing saree, most of her body's skin is exposed but then she looks like a complete women only when she is with saree on. Actually even saree should be worn in such a way that her skin is covered, but women have started fashioning even with saree. Anyway, a woman is asked to cover her skin only because other men shouldnt make any comment. In India, it has been a tradition that women wear saree after marriage, but then very soon it will vanish!

Hi touchnshine! I am 37 years old. Only only day i worn a saree was on my Wedding day.I prefer a dress which covers the entire body. I find saree extremely uncomfortable as a daily wear and prefer shirts and trousers at work. Occationaly i wear Salwar Kameez too.

hmmm well i like to wear salwar kameez...because its easy to manage...and yes no body parts can be seen from salwar and whereas in saree ...it can been seen...it depends on how people think about salwar kameez and saree.

This idea probably originates form ancient times. There used to be no salwar kameezes then and so people used to wrap some kind of material around thier body to cover it. This material came to be known as a saree and so it still continues to be used as a tradition.

I agree that trend is changing very much.Women wear sarees only in marriage functions nowadays.Being a girl after marriage i too prefer to wear lot of salwar & other dresses with least sarees. For me its not the tradition change but its due to the comfortablility of otherdresses more than saree.Nowadays most of the women work after marriage and they rush up everyday with busy schedule at home and office & i feel saree is not suitable to this hurry up lifestyle.
But one has to agree that women get a complete beautiful look in saree than any other dress. But this saree are also weared with new trendy look in this age & soon this beauty too will diminish when time goes...

Actually i think a saree looks better in a woman than salwar kameez.I recently got married & still wore salwar kameez. There is no compulsion. But sometimes in functions it look nice that lady is wearing saree. It makes her more beautiful. But saree should be wore covering the body.
