I have seen a lot of money making programs on the internet and I have also got to know different people prefer different ways to earn their money online.
Here are some of the different ways that I have discovered.
1. Posting on online forums like this one.
2. Participate in GPT programs.
3. Participate in online Surveys.
4. Join affiliate programs such as Amazon.com.
5. Run blogs or websites with paying advertisements.
6. Invest in HYIPs.
7. Sell third party products online.
8. Sell own products online.
Those are the few that I know. What about you? Do you do any or all or some of the above? What makes you decide on what method to earn online?

HYIPs are generally scams, veteran players all know it (though they pretend not too). It's a game of a speed and experience. The first few are likely to make money while everyone else gets ripped off by the admin.
Couple of months into the game, I broke a few basic rules (yes... I got greedy) and lost my capital. Nowadays, I'm trying to earn some with more legal methods.
My advice is to avoid hyips, like a fixed gambling match, the admin always wins.

I do affiliate marketing and encourage anyone to do it - selling third party products online is about the best way to make big money and on May the first it is going to become easier for everyone with the release of Who Loves Money because it involves zero investment stragegies that turned two guys who started out on a $5 budget into millionaires.
You can check out my profile to find out more and also find out why they are giving away $50 to anyone who signs up at their website.

Thanks for the list, I think you could have gone further to specify the ones you are participating in, and what each one offers. In my own case, I am deeply involved with the DHS Club, a worldwide consumer-based organization, which offers free membership and benefits which include saving from purchases, reaping reward points and paypoints, earning referral commissions and ongoing residual income, providing e-biz training as well as an opportunity for participating in affiliate marketing programmes. You may wish to visit them via http://www.clubshop.com/cgi-bin/members/LO3721626. A try will convince you.
