We always make use of cooking oil whenever we fry, saute, barbecue or grill foods. I use vegetable oil for this purpose just as my mother did. There are some I know who are using butter or other types of oil for the purposes mentioned. How about you, what do you use for cooking, is it vegetable oil, corn oil, olive oil or butter? Please share your cooking ideas on this matter.

In my family, I think we use peanut oil. The food somehow smells better. Sometimes we use sunflower or vegetable oil too. But I would love to use olive oil - tastes the best but too expensive to use regularly. :P

Peanut oil is new to me. It must smell really good considering the smell of peanuts. I love peanuts, you know. Olive oil is highly recommended by cooks and doctors. But doctors say that vegetable oil is just fine for regular use. Sunflower oil is also expensive in our country.

I use various oils depending on what the purposes are. I also will allow some items to cook in their natural oils for flavor. Just so you know it is good to use Olive Oil for your vegetables. But if your going to use some spices, that is where the butter can come in to help the flavor of the spices.

I usually use vegetable oil when cooking. I have become comfortable using it. But it is true that we use various cooking oils to make the food taste better. There are recipes which call for the use of a specific type. Butter is used at home also because, we know that it perks up the flavor of some foods but it is only now that I know that spices come alive even more with it. Thanks for this information, sailor.

We use olive oil for most of our cooking. Occasionally, we use light butter. I try to go for healthier options when it comes to cooking. We also don't fry a lot of stuff...mostly bake or saute.

Yes, you are right. We had been told time and again that it is healthier to use the least amount of oil in the foods we cook.

For frying chicken, pork chops and fish, I use Crisco shortening and only Crisco...sometimes I use buttery Crisco.
When I use butter to saute, I always put about 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil with it to keep it from burning while it is heating up.
I use vegetable oil in my water when boiling noodles, it keeps them from sticking.
And of course I use oil for my baking.
But for frying, good old Crisco Shortening for me!

Crisco shortening is an item which I don't believe I have seen in our supermarket shelves. I presume that it makes food taste great since it is your favorite. Thank you for telling me about mixing some vegetable oil with butter to keep it from burning. That is a good idea I have learned from you, lovesfreedom.

Corn oil is healthy and it gives food a more pleasing taste. But it is not as cheap as vegetable oil.

It is true that we have heard claims that olive oil is the best there is. However, some doctors contested that vegetable oil is, in fact, the best. I tend to agree that vegetable oil is really the best. As you can see, all nutrionists claim that fruits and vegetables are best for us. So, if vegetables are best for us, doesn't if follow that vegetable oil is also best for us?

i am used to having vegetable oil when frying/cooking. there are times when i feel like using butter especially with spaghetti sauce. i like the food which is cooked with butter than oil. the taste is richer.

Yes, butter perks up the flavor in some food because of its sweet smell. But perhaps, it is better to use vegetable oil where it is okay, butter is too rich and may not be good for our health if we consume too much of it.

Corn oil is healthy. I remember that the doctor recommended it for my mom's use.

It depends on what I'm cooking for me to know what I'll be using. If I scramble eggs or bake cookies I use cooking spray. If I fry eggs or brown porchop or a roast I use butter. If I stir fry I use olive oil or vegetable oil. I guess like I said it depends on a bunch of different things for me.

We use olive oil, peanut oil or butter depending on the type of dish we're cooking. Most meats and fish are grilled or baked in olive oil and I keep butter only for the recipes that really ask for it, as it's a bit too rich for every day and burns too easily.

Yes, most of us use the type of cooking oil as what is called for in the recipe. The health conscious ones and those with health problems are doing their best to stay out of butter for the same reasons as you have pointed out.

It is true that butter perks up the natural flavor in foods. Non stick kitchen utensils are great to use because we dramatically reduce the oil needed for cooking.

For me canola or olive oil is the best. Its very healthy but don't heat it longer in the pan.It may have some effect on the oil to lose its healthy ingredients. If the two are not available, vegetable oil will do.

Thank you for this information, bingbelarm. I have heard that canola oil is also good for those who wants to lose weight. I don't have the exact and full information as to why this is so. I just heard it over tv, so there was no way that I can pose any question to learn furthermore about the matter.

Our country produced a cooking oil from a palm oil fruit. Thus, most of the time we use this oil for cooking. It is less fat and healthy too. Whereas, the butter is believe to have much fat compare to the palm oil or other cooking oil. But sometimes I use butter in my cooking if my dish did not required much oil. They smell nice, that is for sure.

I primarily use vegetable oil when I cook. I try to use as little as possible.
Sometimes I may use butter when frying or scrambling an egg. I like the flavor it gives to it.
I rarely use olive oil, but would like to start using it.
What are some of the applications for using olive oil? Do you use it to fry foods? And how is it used in salads?
I do know it's good for you.

Olive oil may be used as a regular cooking oil. It is fine for sauteeing and frying.
Some Filipino doctors claim that vegetable oil (from coconut) is the best one to use because, it has lots of life sustaining components in it. If we come to think as to how widely used virgin coconut oil is nowadays, as a natural food supplement, we can safely say that there is truth to it. Testimonies came out some years ago that they get cured of their illnesses (mostly cancers and heart conditions) when they incorporated virgin coconut oil (vco)in their daily diet. Now, vco is even being used as hair conditioner and body lotion by many.
Although we hear of plenty who says that olive oil is best tasting for food we saute and fry, I'd rather stick to the cooking oil which is most commonly used in the Philippines, the coconut based cooking oil. Therefore, you do not really have to worry about having to use olive oil always when cooking. There are some recipes which call for it, and that will be the time when I get hold of some. Olive oil is quite expensive because of the extraction cost involved plus its being an imported product.

I have information that the saturated fatty acids in vegetable oil are the ones which doctors and nutrionists call as the good cholesterol. Meaning, they are friendly to our bodies because, they dissolve the bad cholesterol which we have somehow accumulated. Therefore, there is no worry at all if we continue using those vegetable based cooking oils. No worry about corn oil either, corn is among the friendlier products we have around. Besides, corn is classified as vegetable, too. I hope that this information has made you feel better about the types of cooking oil you are using, my friend.

My brothers used vegetable oil when cooking but whenever I find myself having to fry something, I usually skip the oil to lessen the calories. We have one of those non-stick frying pans so I don't have to use oil and whenever I cook bacon or corned beef, I just use the oil from the fat of the meat. It's healthier and fewer in calories.

If I am deep frying foods I will use just vegetable oil because that is what my mother used. If I am frying such things as pork chops or bacon I use a little bit of vegetable. But if I am frying potatoes I will use a mixture of both so that I can have the flavor of the butter.

Thank you for your time, nardz. Butter and olive oil are indeed good materials for cooking. The only thing about them are their prices. There are times though when we use them too for some special recipes.
