My husband gets so mad when I wash his stuff that he left in his pants.... He works construction and so when he gets home, his pants can offen stand up by themselves they are so dirty, I won't even wash them with my other clothes.... And I will not go digging through there pockets, ans so if he leaves his pocket knife, or wallet in the pocket it gets washed.... Do you go through the pockets? Or do you leave it up to the person who throws the pants into the laundry basket?

I always forget to do that! I also tell my family the laundress keeps any money found in the wash!

I go through the same thing with my husband. He learned to clean out his pockets after a couple hundred dollars got washed and dried and ended up in a billion little lint-like pieces. I told him 'the stuff in the hamper is to be washed. If you don't want the stuff in your pockets washed, don't put it in the hamper.' It's bad enough I have to wash other people's clothes (even if they ARE family); I refuse to dig around in dirty pockets on top of it.

Once it is in the wash anything that is left in the pockets is fair game for the washing machine if you put it in the wash then you should empty the pockets it was the way i raised and taught my sons the same. i will nto go gather laundry from rooms or anything liek that bu tonce it in a laundry basket all bets are off if i think ther eis something i will check but other than that no dice.

I usually go through all the pockets of all the pants whenever I wash clothes. Sometimes I forget, though, and when I do, my son complains about having shreds of paper inside his pockets when he wears his pants again. He goes.."mom, you didn't check the pockets again?" So I try not to forget to check them all before washing them up.

You should tell him that if he's old enough to complain, he's old enough to remember to check them himself. :)

I normally just dump everything into the washing machine when I see that we have enough clothes for a full load. I think it is the responsibility of the individual to make sure he takes everything out of his pockets. It would be such a silly waste of time for the one helping to wash to go through all the pockets. :P

Exactly . . . It's not like I don't have anything else to do than go digging into every pocket, before throwing it all into the washer...

I do go through the pockets before I wash clothes. The few times I didn't I ended up washing a wallet, a cell phone, a pen. I do tell eveyone to check their own pockets. I usually don't find anything. I figure we all can forget sometimes, so I do what you would call double checking. That way nothing will get washed.

I never think to look in the pockets either. I think it is up to the person who puts their laundry in the basket to check their pockets first. Any money I find is mine. I have found some interesting things in the laundry and at time regret not having looked in pockets first. One time recently I thought I felt something hard in a pair of pants but stupid me didn't even bother to check and see if there was something in the pocket. I guess I'm lazy that way. I had having to turn socks right side out too. Most of the time my husband and kids put their socks in the laundry right side out but sometimes they don't and it can be gross if the socks had been wet and dirty. I used to watch my father take his socks off at night and I asked him why he turned his socks right side out before he put them in the laundry. He said, "You're mother is just going to have to do it." My father had great respect for my mother and everything that she did.

Sometimes I do, but if I'm in a hurry I just throw stuff in the washer. When you open the dryer door and change or cash falls out, it is a nice little surprise. Since I don't know who it belonged to in the first place, I consider it my pay for doing the laundry!

After washing my b/f's latest pay stub he needed, I am more 'religiously' checking all pockets in his jeans, pants and shirts cause the man loves pockets and most often money is left in them. But I was forgetful that day ! After reading this, like I said, I will check those pockets every single time before they hit the laundry basket !

I always go through my husband's pockets when I wash them. Too often, he will leave things like gum and pencils and money or important reciepts in his pockets. Gum is a horror to get out of clothes, so I learned to always check his pockets!

I have a bad habit of not going through the pockets, but truthfully, I feel like it's really the responsibility of everyone else in my house to go through their own pockets. If I find money in the washing machine, I throw it into a jar and it's up for grabs at that point. You would think my kids would learn, but they still don't clean out their pockets before laundry day.

You know what, among all the step of doing laundry... checking pockets is my favorite part! I guess you know why? I love checking pockets especially my mum's clothes cause she will definitely left some change there and for me finders keepers!lol. I know its a bad thing, but its just a change... plus its rare that I can get something...hahahaa.

I try to remember to go through all pockets before washing anything. Sometimes you do forget, though. It's great when you find washed cash.

I usually check my pants whenever i throw them in the laundry basket. because i have suffered a lot for not doing this. I have lost money, game tickets important phone numbers. You name it i have done it. So, i always do the check and i would suggest everyone also to do so. It really helps.

I never go through pants paockets and my family knows that. However, they also know that all laundered money is mine. I have came out quite well with this theory as my husband is known for leaving money in the pockets of his work jeans. $50 in one day!!

I often did such a thing before. But just once or twice and it never happened again. I remeber to check if there is money or other important things in the pocket.
