Well i always make sure that after washing i dont hang it under the sun. That's the number one reason why clothes fades. Another is you have to choose a detergent which is mild because a strong detergent is the culprit also. If the shirt is already faded you can dye it with a fabric dye of the same color but be aware not to mix it with other clothes during washing.

i think you are correct. drying our clothes under the heat of the sun longer would really make the fabric to be discolored. how would i know if the detergent is strong or not? can you recommend me the milder ones?
what are examples of fabric dyes (locally available)

I use perla blue because the white one leave white marks on colored shirt if not properly rinsed. Do you know jobos? that's an old time fabric dye.

First step is you take hold of the shirt from out of the shopping bag. Now, you have to iron it. Turn it over. Iron from the wrong side. The hottest that the cloth can take. Iron it well and good. This exercise makes the colors set in permanently. Then wear it. After having been wearing it for a good one day, as we commonly do, wash it using the regular powder or bar detergents. Do not leave it in the soap and water mix to soak for more than 30 minutes. In fact, 15 minutes should be fine.
Hang it in the shade. Never hang colored clothes under the direct heat of the sun. Everytiime you iron your shirt, make sure that you iron it from the wrong side. Ironing also induces the colors to fade. Finishing touches while ironing maybe done at the proper side of the shirt but, it should not take long as it will be only to be rid of the ironing marks.

i think i have to write down in my notebook all your instructions so i won't forget them. I already missed my mother because she was also very meticulous as you are specially in giving me instructions like ironing my clothes, arranging my closet, cooking some recipes, and even choosing the right woman in my life. thanks again for the concern.

i ask my wife about this, and she told me that at first, after buying and having it wash and hang dry, it must not be exposed to direct sunlight so that their colors will not fade and stay bright and new.

I don't use my favorite clothes often so that I won't wash them often too. I also use a special mild detergent that is not harmful to colored clothes. It is customary here in our country even if we have a clothes dryer to hang out clothes under the sun to give it a fresh smell, this tends to fade colored clothes so I don't hang my favorite clothes. Fabric conditioners also help in keeping the original colors of colored clothes.

we were not used to applying chlorox when we wash our clothes because we get our hands irritated. we use our hands instead of a washing machine.
since you showed me the proper way of using the chlorox i would recommend it to my partner to try it. hope we really won't get disappointed. LOL

To maintain the color of shirts you have to use a mild detergent with no bleach at all. I hang dry my clothes. I never machine wash and spin dry my clothes. Most especially I never sun dry my clothes. I just hang it up on open air. A good fabric conditioner helps.
Coloring clothes with those over the counter fabric colorings can be an option but I do not use that since it also fade and you have to wash treated clothes separately to avoid its effects on other clothes.
Hope this help

Nice subject!
I have read all responses above and I can list the mean ways for caring:
* Don't dry your clothes under the sun light.
* Always iron it after turning over with the suitable
temp as recommended.
* Use the suitable powdwer or cleaner.
* Not to wear the same clothes most of the time.
Have a nice day;)

The best way to avoid clothes loosing its colour is to avoid drying them under sun. Many of us do this mistake for quick drying, but the sun'heat also takes away the colour fabric. ANother way would also be to check in your detergent as strog detergents cause clothes to loose colours.

i agree with you about too much exposure to sun would make the color of the shirt fade.
with regards to detergents i really can't identify which one is strong or mild type?

i wash them in cold water and dry them in the shade. i dont like to throw them into the washing mashine for the spoil soft cloths. though many of my cloths dont lose there colour i dont like to throw them in to the washing mashine.

thanks for the tip. i usually prefer to use my hands in washing my clothes rather than using the washing machine because i already experienced one time when my clothes were torn away because of the buttons that got stucked in the machine.
