I would say it's reasonable to say that Mao has lost some of the sheen on his image over the last years. As historians learn more about the human and national cost of programs like the great leap forward, not to mention the corruption, his years appear to have greatly hindered China. Into this equation we must take into account the prevailing attitude of the US that Mao had to deal with. China was prevented from assuming a natural leadership position in Asia until the 1970s. Oddly enough, it was Mao's rejection of Moscow that left the communist world too weak to truly deal with the western world economically. Mao's vision does not fit well with the 21st century reality. Like so many Cold War warriors, his time is past. Still, he will no doubt retain an iconic status, but then, so does Elvis and I never understood that one.

I can't beloeve any man is a Godd, but can be inspired by God. Chairman Mao was an Idealist and he indeed had vision for His nation. Like all men he did make mistakes but he meant well and If it wasn't for the CCP there would be no China today as we know it so in helping China get a new Identity, he prevented it being cut up and divided by foreign powers so for this He definately deserves respect. I am not a Chinese and my Historical backround of China is fairly limited but If it was left to Gwamingdang alone China would have been sold off to western globalisation projects and although China is taking on capitalistic ideas along with the CCP it still is negotiating all policies on its own terms and does not like to be dictated to by U.S or U.N.. My Heroes of China I really like are Zhuge Liang, Sun Zi, Lao Zi, Kongfu Zi, Li Chuan and Chang San Feng..I read the Yin Bing Fa all the time..
