Yes, I havan idea about what yahoo is. The creative origin of this word comes from Jonathan Swift in Gulliver's Travels. The Yahoo are a race of brutes, who look and act like man. And if talking about Yahoo.com, the name Yahoo! is an acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle," but Filo and Yang [Yahoo! founders] insist they selected the name because they liked the general definition of a yahoo: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth." Yahoo! itself first resided on Yang's student workstation, "Akebono," while the software was lodged on Filo's computer, "Konishiki"—both named after legendary sumo wrestlers.

That is so funny, I seriously had no clue. I actually find it quite interesting what all the companies' names stand for, and I have found that in many cases they actually do have a dictionary meaning. Thanks for enlightening in regards to the Yahoo name

Ha ha! I have heard it used that way. It was often used derogatorily, that is in a not nice way. In Webster's, it's defined as "one race of brutes having the form of men in Johnathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels: a boorish, crass, or stupid person. I think it's funny because my internet provider uses this word for their internet service. I don't know why people started using the word as an exclamation.

Well, for me it just used to be a boisterous expression of joy until i read your topic here but it doesn't change what i would like it to be. Its good to know these things as they really are, just another added story to any bar talks. Never had any expression made so much money though & to be a great icon of an ever changing landscape in internet technology. Surely such expression, would evolved in itself something far more just an ordinary expression of joy but surely the owners of yahoo think otherwise ordinary about it.
