Kobe Bryant joined former Los Angeles Laker Wilt Chamberlain as the only players who scored at least 50 points ten or more times as the Lakers took the nightcap of a Staples Center doubleheader with a 109-98 win over Seattle earlier. The Lakers (41-40) clinched a playoff berth with the win, following the Clippers' 105-100 loss to Sacramento in the afternoon game. KB24 scored 50 points of 18-of 25 shooting, including three triples, and 11-out-of 13 free throws. Sonics'(31-50) coach Bob Hill joked about defending Kobe and said that they "forced Bryant to a 50-point night". The Lakers now need to win at Sacramento (33-47) on Thursday (Manila Time) to secure the seventh seed as they hold the tiebreakers against both the Clippers (39-41) and the Golden State Warriors (40-40), who stole the eighth place away from the Clippers with a 121-108 win over Minnesota (32-48). The winner in the race to seventh place earns the right to face Phoenix in the first round, while the eighth seed faces Dallas.

congratulations to kobe's achievement. i definitely bow to what he has done the whole season. not even the great jordan had accomplish this feat. kobe a great scoring threat, but players dont win championships, teams do. and being the sixth seed right now, la will be facing a hot phoenix team. wherein everyone is a threat.

Sorry for my erratum: Denver currently is the sixth seed, facing third seed San Antonio. The Lakers have no more hopes of placing sixth as the Nuggets already have 43 wins. Nevertheless, Denver vs. S.A. and L.A. Lakers vs. Phoenix are two interesting first round seres (did I get the spelling of the plural form of series correct?), being rematches of interesting playoff series in the past. Denver, still minus Allen Iverson at that time, drew first blood with a shocking win before giving up the series against the Spurs in 2005, while L.A.'s purple-and-gold boys just watched how Phoenix blow the Lakers' 3-1 lead in 2006. Another erratum: In my post, it should have been "...ten or more times IN A SEASON...". Sorry for the missing detail.

Kobe's achievements are hand down the best. I mean the kid can score 50 at his will. No one can touch him and no one in his team complains, why? Because he actually makes those shots! When was the last time that anyone of the NBA stars ever gotten close to 50 not to mention tons of ball hoggers. That's right, not much. I rest my case.

its not a really surprising thing kobe scoring 50 again. but the important thing about it is that the lakers clinched a playoff spot and ended their losing skid. he has been scoring 50 points at will during the course of the season yet the lakers are holding just a game above .500.

It doesn't look like the Lakers will go very far into the playoffs, but I'm hoping they lock up the seventh seed. The Lakers versus the Suns will make for a nice series to watch, but unless the Lakers can get their act together and start playing some solid team ball it will be over all too soon. Still I'm pulling for them!
