.... or vice versa? It's a well known saying that A Dog is a Man's Best Friend. Do you agree with this saying, and if so, why? Is it because a dog is loyal to its Master? Or do you think perhaps Man is a Dog's best friend? If you think this, then please state your reasons. Or, do you think that there's an equal partnership between a Man and his Dog? Your opinions, please?

There is an equal Partnership between a Dog and their owner
I love Gissi very much and he returns that Love, I trust him and he returns that trust, I protect him and when he has to he will protect me and so on it goes.
You can only get back from a Dog what you give him

I would think a dog is a man's best friend. I am not sure how man can be a dog's best friend as I cannot understand dog's language other than it wagging its tail :P
Dogs have been trained to specially look after man, especially the blind and handicapped. They have also faithfully served man with what they are supposed or trained to do, and do not fight back, unlike human beings.
In the areas of providing security, I would think that dogs complement humans in their roles as security guards :p

Yes, I agree with a lot of what you say here, Why. The only thing I would say is that although Man does not understand a dog's language, he will always know what the dog wants because he gets to know the actions.
Thank you for your + rated response and brightest blessings.

Yeah, I think the word Man is used as a generalisation as in Mankind, but you're right to point that out Deeeky. We shouldn't differentiate between male and female when it comes to sayings like this.
I also agree that Blind People make very good friends of their Guide Dogs and are heavily reliant on and trusting towards them and rightly so. But, I also think that the boot can be on the other foot. I think a bonding consists of a two-way thing... to trust your dog you also have to gain the dog's trust and in doing this you grow to love them and would in return, perform similar acts of love towards them. In other words, the saying should be added to, in my opion... Dog is a Wo(Man's) best friend and Wo(Man) is a dog's best friend.
Thank you for your very thoughtful response, and brightest blessings my dear friend.

Not neccessary a man but a woman as well. I have seen an alsation go through a glass window to protect a lady owner and a site to behold it was.
Ask that same question to all the blind people that rely on their dogs for thier sight, companionship, devotion, friend and I will tell you the answer that you probably already know!
Have a wonderfull day my friend.

I believe in the partnership but with the dog someone has to be the alpha so that is the human..When we allow a dog into our lives we become part of his/her pack just as the dog becomes part of our family..I've had many animal best friends through the years some of which were dogs.

I think thats there is an equal partnership between Man and Dog.
While the Man gives home, care and food, the Dog replies with attention, loyality and protection. Okay, nowadays there are some dog breeds that NEEDS protection instead of providing it, but back in history dogs were used to protect territories and help hunting.
