What do you use to keep yourself dry when you are out in the rainy weather?

Does anyone wear a poncho anymore? I rarely see anyone wearing ponchos as I see umbrellas all the time and rain jackets. Today with our big noreaster storm I wore my poncho because the winds are so strong an umbrella would do no good. I think ponchos are great for wearing in the rain, whether windy or not, since it keeps most of yourself dry. Do you feel a poncho is worth wearing? Are people embarrassed to wear ponchos?

I have never worn a poncho and to tell you the truth I have only seen them be worn at places like ball games where umbrellas would get in the way of someones view. I personally use umbrellas as I don't like ponchos, but other people wearing them wouldn't bother me at all.

My husband has a rain poncho and wore it when he was working as a landscaper. IT was the only way he could keep dry. There are ponchos for children too. I plan to buy one for our grandson to wear to school on rainy days. Me, I only use an umbrella. There have been times when a rain poncho would have come in handy. I have at times used a plastic garbage bag with a hole cut in the center to protect my clothing from getting wet. That was a site to see.

I actually like the rain and even though this sounds hard to believe I don't get colds from the rain, I only catch them from other people. Which makes it all the more fun for me because I don't have to worry about getting too wet, although this doesn't mean I go out when it's slinging it down. (hehe)
I'm not much of a hat person either.

Poncho's pull over your head and have a head covering too. They are full like a tent. Work the best.

I used to have an umbrella, but lost it. Nowadays I just make a mad dash for the door to wherever I need to be. Or I can put my puse or a plastic bag over my hair, doesn't really help, but we don't get too much rain here lately, so I keep forgetting to get me a new umbrella. I don't have a raincoat, my daughter used to have one while in college, it rained all the time on her campus.

I have to wear a poncho cos' it's so windy that the umbrella doesn't do anything for me! I've had 2 umbrellas broken beyond recognition as a result of strong winds. Now, I've resorted to wearing a poncho. Yes, I admit that it's not very flattering but it's the only thing at works. I have to use it a lot when I have to take my dog out to potty in the rain. We don't have a fenced yard so I can't let her run loose. I hate having to go out in the rain with her. Urrgghh!!!

You are definitely right that when it is windy an umbrella will not do us any good and we will get soaking wet. Ponchos do a good job in keeping us dry. I did not like having to go out in the rain either to walk my parents dog and of course their dog did not like getting wet either. :-)

Ya,know ,I can't even remember the last time I saw someone wearing a poncho when it rained . I had forgotten all about them. I don't know why people don't really wear them much anymore

maybe because jackets are easier and quicker to wear and umbrellas are easier to use. people these days are into using stuffs which are easier and quicker to handle. but when i was still a kid, i love to wear pochos... especially with cartoon characters printed on it.

Oh I absolutely hate a poncho. It just reminds me of my army days.
If it is really raining, I will bring an umbrella alone. Otherwise, I will just wait at some shelters if possible and wait for the rain to stop.
In Singapore, NO ONE wears a poncho. Only kids perhaps. :P

Why do you hate wearing a poncho? I know that I needed either that or a rainjacket to go to work yesterday as it was pouring and the winds were about 50 to 60 mph so an umbrella would have gotten damaged or destroyed or I would be Mary Poppins and fly away. :-)

I usually use an umbrella and a jacket. But mostly an umbrella, because it is more handy and when you don't need it anymore. You can tuck it back in your handbag. I never wore a poncho. But my dad loves them. Because they really cover you, more than for jackets. Have a nice day Kg!(^^,)

You are certainly most prepared for a rain storm and that is good so that you will stay healthy. I usually use an umbrella and have two in my car but our storm was very bad today and an umbrella would not have worked. Ponchos do cover us up more than an umbrella and some rain jackets. Have a great day as well.

just use a raincoat and you will never become wet.choose a rain coat that covers you'll from your head to the feet and you will not be wet at all. U cannot just pacify yourself with an umbrella because that ruins all your clothes and you will become wet if there is a heavy rain

I just use a jacket. My son is in a wheelchair and we use the poncho on him. It helps to keep his whole chair dry. We also have them at the campground and use them quite a bit.

We have no rain where I am. But, in Florida it rained a lot. I for one, like a poncho. It keeps you dryer than anything else. As far as embarrassedment, not me. I don't care what others think, I do as I please. And to stay dry, a poncho is the only way.

You know I think ponchos are still a great idea even though I don't have one any more. My daughter would call me a 'bogan' (that is a word her age group call dags or uncool people) The only time you see ponchos these days is at amusement parks for those wet rides. They make a heap of money on them I think haha. Personally I have a fold up umbrells in the car at all times and my kids hsve light rainjackets in their school bags all the time.

i am sorry but, i do not know what a poncho is. rain jackets and umbrellas are familiar to me. i prefer to bring an umbrella with me always because, umbrellas can be used to protect me from both harshness of the weather which are: sun and rain.

I live in a land of bikes and the land is flat, where alot of people enjoying bikes for their daily routines...school, works, shopping....you name it.
So, yes...poncho is very normal and alot of people wearing ponchos here. I think it will difficult to hold an umbrella while paddling your bike. Especially during stormy day, if you're holding an umbrella, it will turn immediately as one of those antena bowl...hehehe....

I do not wear a poncho, in fact I have never used it before. I think people will stare at me if I do so as I have never seen people wearing this except the kids. In australia, people tend not to carry an umbrella even they know it is going to rain, they just let the rain wet their body, they do not mind,I may still use my umbrella even in a stormy day although it seldom happens here.

I do see people wear them at ballgames but I do not see people wear them anywhere else. Our winds today were about 50 to 60 mph so an umbrella definitely would have gotten torn up. It did feel weird wearing one but at least I kept myself dry when I got to work. I did not wear it when I left work as the rain had stopped.
