United States

Some people say you can get a used car in very less price in a Police car auction. But I have never heard about such kind of auction and also have not seen any advertisement for this kind of auction. I have seen some website about this kind of auctions, but I am not sure how jenuine they are. I wonder if really we can get good deal for car in police car auction. Are this kind of auction real? Do you have any idea about this. I would like to know more about this.

To be honest I would not get involved with that. My husband is in the car business and Ive never heard him say anything good about these auctions. If you want you should check them out on the net first. Then if you see anything you like then go there in person. And good luck to you my friend.

To go there in person, I have no idea where I can get information about where and when the auction take place. In the internet I only got information about online auction, and don't know how real they are. Because the site does not have any contact number.

I have purchased a few vehicles from police impound auctions locally, but just for use as "parts" vehicles. I don't know about other places, but here most are vehicles that broke down on the road, and there is a lot of paperwork involved in getting a legal road title.

Hmmm it does not sounds like what I am looking for in auction. I want a good car not "parts" vehicle. But some people say you can get realy good car in good price.

I know for a fact police here do this to unclaimed cars because it costs money to have them stored or destroyed. Once in my local paper I read that a car owner reported his care, gave the description and his local police said they'd keep a look and do checks. the follow week, the car was sold to someone which the originally owner noticed his car and put in a request to get his car back or the money. I'd actually love to hear what happened in the end because I don't think they have any rights to do this and they should do more to find the owners. ~Joey

Yes, they are for real. You may be able to get it at a much cheaper rate than from a dealership but the risk is you don't know what's the history of the car. Unless you have some way to obtain the VIN number and maybe run a Carfax on it or get a mechanic to check it out before purchasing it, you might risk getting a lemon. There are also some banks that offer impounded cars...which are basically cars that get seized when the owners can't make the payments anymore. You can also check those out. Plus, there's always Ebay!

I don't like to take risk, so I would not go to online purchase like Ebay. It's always good to see the car physicaly before buy. I think banks impunded cars would be a good option to look at.

Well in our area these auctions are very rare but yes they do conduct these auctions to sell out the siezed cars and make money out of them. The police department have to recover some money since they are supposed to collect some amount every month. If a car is siezed and no one comes to clamin it them they will acution it. One of my friend bought a ford icon which was a brand new car and it was involved in an accident and siezed, he got it for 50% of the original price of the car and it was really a good deal. Since not too many knew that it was going to auction there were very less participants.

Yes, they are real. Phone your local police station and they can tell you more about it. I have not personally done this but I have friends who have.

I've often wondered about this also, but I would be afraid to drive any car the police took from a crook or anyone else. They could see you and want their car/truck back.

It is real, and there's probably one not too far from you. The problem is, everything is sold "as is" so unless you are a mechanic and can tell what kind of problems a car may have just by looking, you have no way of knowing how well the car will run.

I have a friend who is a member of the police force in my country and he bought a volkswagen beetle from the pound. He didn't want the car as a means of transport - just as a vintage car. He got it for less than €100 and he thinks it was well worth the money. It drives ok and now he is working on the restoration of it. I think most of the cars on auction at the police pound are bought "as seen".

I dont believe in police auctions because I think they put some kind of gps on the car When I got one and I asked the dealer why and he said it was because they provide extra protection or something like that, ever since then I have been scared to purchase a car.

Well I have personally been to police auctions and you can get some amazing deals if your at the right one. There are also many online police auctions but most require some fee to be registered at the auction site of your choice. Also if the product your buying is out of country then you'll have shipping fee's and taxes to pay so if you plan on doing this try to find one locally and you will be able to get some incredible deals.
