Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty kiss

I just read that there have been several protests and demonstrations over India because Richard Gere kissed the Bollywood actress in public during an Aids Awareness benefit. It was a full embrace with a kiss or two on the cheek. Is this such a big deal in India? These people are mad at Shilpa too. I don't really understand that because she didn't do anything. Is there kissing in movies or is it just in public it is forbidden?

It wasn't a kiss or two i watched the whole video and it was 12 kisses in total. What makes a man kiss a girl on a stage where there are people trying to create awareness about aids and its effects. Is that a stage where they are partying or celebrating some fun stuff? If you can see the whole video you can feel it. People are not just against Richard Gere, they are protesting against Shilpa Shetty too. The act of Richard Gere can be easily felt if you can examine him in the video closely , He was so emotional that he couldn't control and was Shilpa Shetty who could have objected his act of the same. Shilpa shetty is now defending Richard Gere's act and is trying to blame the media, She should at least remember what Indian culture is. No one in India would be appreciating that act.

Ciao Lucy02, here BRELUSTE dk, I got your point, but is matter of religion and respect, for us is absolutly normal kiss in the cheeks, for them is not.. I just sow the picture, and also here in Denmark promote that episode like a "megakiss"...and not just like a simple kiss.Simple or complicate it doesn´t matter, the point is that if is missed respect, somewhere ,somehow it is possible been attack...Also for simply things as a kiss in the cheeck... Ciao from BRELUSTE dk

Hi Breluste. Thanks for the response. Yes I agree. I hope that Richard learned his lesson though and apologizes and we can move on from it though. I really think it was just a misunderstanding.

Hi Lucy, I have not heard about it, so I checked it on the net. A kiss, and this bahaving is a taboo in India, but the rest of the world this act seemed rather funny, isn't it. Gere is a very funny guy, and he behaved like this, and Shilpa Shetty - as I saw -could not move even to avoid this act. I think the Indians life were simplier if they would try to be a little more opened minded.

Hi Dolcerina, I feel bad for Shilpa too. Like you said she could hardly avoid it and probably did not want to hurt his feelings. Seems like she is kind of caught in the middle.

As I understand it, people are not allowed to kiss or even to hold hands in an Indian movie. The United States used to be a lot like this in the 1950's when television was first introduced (a bed or a bathroom could not be shown on television).

Thanks for your response chanduias. I didn't realize that Indian culture was so different in that respect than ours. Apparently Mr. Gere didn't either. lol
