Are you smarter than a 5th grader. Fair question to ask ?

I think that the new show, "Are you smarter then a 5th grader" is nothing more then one of those shows that try to make people look dumb. It does that by asking very unfair question which they claim, an ordinary 5th grader would know. When I first heard about that show I was like, "ok this should be easy" so I decided to watch it. My God, this show is ridiculous! The question that they ask are one of those pure memorization questions. The kind of question that you would have no idea how to answer unless you have memorized it since you were in elementary school. One of the question that surprised me the most is "In what month does the vernal equinox occur?" If you were to walk into the street and ask that question to a 10 year old, he wouldn't know. These questions are unfair and they're not typical 5th grade question, but at the same time I understand that the producers of the show don't want to give up 1 million dollars so easily.

I agree that a few of the questions they ask would only be known by younger children becasue they are just learning it, stuff that you wouldnt have to remember as an adult. but most of the questions are simple, basic knowledge questions. I'm 18 and I knew a lot of the questions.

I would have to agree that a lot of the questions asked on the show are difficult, I get the odd one right though. Some of their first grade math questions don't really seem to be suited for someone in grade 1, I didn't think 1st graders did much math aside from counting to 100.

I have never seen this show, however I have heard of it. It sounds really good to me, and I have been wanting to see it, but yes it does sound ridiculous! I am a senior in highschool and I wouldn't be able to tell you what month the vernal equinox occurs. I have to wonder if the 5th graders even get the questions right/ Or does the show not have the fifth graders on it? Lol I've never seen it so I don't know how it really works.

I already posted about this a couple of weeks ago and I totally agree with you. The producers must go out of their way to find the dumbest people on earth to play this game...or, the contestants are told to act dumb in order to make the show more interesting to the viewers. Afterall, it's much more entertaining to watch these middle-aged people rely on twelve year olds to win the game.

To be honest, it does make people look dumb but I guess that's what the producers of the show wants to do. I think some questions in the show are easy and some are fairly hard that only if you pay full attention during your primary school days you will be able to answer. Even though some questions are real tough, but don't forget there's the cheats and you are also allowed to walk away with all the money you have without answering the question if you choose to do that. Hence, if you qualify for the show, you are actually getting easy money even though you need to humiliate yourself in front of national television. If it was me, I'd rather admit I'm not smarter than a 5th grader and win a large sum of money. By the way, have you watched the reality game show "Con Test"? I've seen much more diligent contestants in that show that I think can ace "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" without breaking a sweat...
