Yes, as you and your childhood bestfriend prove it.
I have a very close childhood friend though we don't consider each other as bestfriends really but I know what we have is a more profound relatonship as friends. Maybe I got a bestfriend in her. Same with yours, our treatment or our bond hasn't change a bit eventhough we are in our 20's now.

Nope-- unfortunately my best friend and I grew apart after high school- all through school we were inseperable- joined at the hip-- we went different ways in life- Me to college and her to the Marines- She now lives in Texas and I live in NY-- I have kept many good friends from school- We have contact weekly and go out often! But not my best friend!

I still talk to a few people I knew from childhood when I see them but other then that its not like Im close to anybody I ever really knew because I moved away about 3 years. Although I dont think its impossible to keep friends from childhood I just think in order to do that you have to keep in touch with them constantly or really theres no hope and you guys eventually drift off like I did with all my friends.

I have had the same best friend since 2nd grade, almost 26 years! We are total opposites, but I am closer to her than my own sister. I don't know how I would live without her!
