The Wizard of Oz... it was the first time color was used. It was really ingenious at the time, and was a great story of how the meek can overcome.
Of course, Gone with the Wind is up there, too... but I liked Oz better!!

American?
Well from a British point of view a lot of the classic true great movies are ours and it was us who was originally what holiday is today. Certainly from by sides and all over the world there are great movies but for me personally I can't select one unless it's from all the big playing nations each.

For me it is impossible to limit it to just one movie. Also you have to look at content, cinematography, special effects, etc. Hmmmmm. I am still thinking about this one. I know that as soon as I pick one I will think of another one. Well, here it is and remember I am not a movie critic. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is really one long movie divided into 3 segments.

I thought Gone With The Wind was the best all time movie. I think the writing is great and the characters were good. Rett Butler was my hero and Scarlet just did not know what she had when she had it. This movie showed us the grass was not always greener in the other pasture. This movie is still around today and watch ofter. I own my own copy of the anniversary issue. I enjoyed watching the making of the movie as well as the actualy movie. I think this movie will be around for a long time.

I think Wizard of Oz was probably this best movie ever made. It's not my favorite movie, but I think they did an amazing job for that era. It was ground breaking.

My best movie that has always left an imprint on my mind is TWIN WARRIORS with Jet Li..It has some good tai ji in the end and it is about two Shaolin Monks that have to leave the monastery as a punishment and so they each go their separate ways and from friends they become enemies because one becomes an Evil General and Jet Li becomes Taoist Master in his own right. Lovely film and a bit of gu dang in it too.

One of the classics of all times, I am sure, would be Bicycle Thief. It is an Italian movie, produced during World War. It is basically a comedy but great job done.
Another good one is, "Sound Of Music".
It would however, be difficult to say that so and so movie is, "The Best Movie". I would prefer to call a few of them as, "The Great Movies".
