What was Richard Gere thinking ?

Anyone noticed the incident that happened with Richard Gere in india ?
I was not astonished to see him in india since he usely visit the place for AIDS awareness programs. He meets celebritis to get the promotion going, but this time he did cross the line i think.
I do understand that kissing is quite common in foreign culture when you meet someone ! and that is quite accetable in india, but Gere did took the actress Shilpa in his arms and swept her away from her feets...waohhh
the actress had no clue what was happening.....do you think gere was not in his senses ?????
or are people back in india over reacting by burning his effigy ?????

I think media is over-reacting on the issue and press also. Newspapers are printing step by step photos of the kissing episode on the front page....making it such an important even...as nothing is more important than this in India. I thinkg it would have remained a normal gestur by Richard... he would have done on the spur of the moment. I think...we should not concentrate much on this trivial issues.....which are unnecssarily hyped by the media.

yes i also think that it has been just blown out of proportion !! if the same thing had happened over here, it would have been considered very normal as a part of entertainment business. Maybe media did not have anything more juicier on that day !!
