Can anyone explain to me how Google calculates its adsense payments?

I'm very confused - some days I will get zero clicks on any adsense links on my web pages and I will still receive as much as $0.09, or with just one click I can receive about $0.52 but other days I will get six clicks but only receive $0.43.
Today I had just 14 clicks on my pages but I received $3.26!
I'm sure there's a logical reason behind it all but I can't work it out.
Can anyone help?

No idea how they work ... it could have something to do with when and how they calculate the physical day ... I mean we think of the day as being from midnight to midnight but they might calculate it in a different way. Maybe there is some sort of catchup from past days or something like that. My partner gave up on it actually ... she could never figure it out ... sometimes she thought she should have received a lot more and other times she was surprised that it was so much.
Look at it like this ... if you are happy with the overall amount you are getting ... don't complain but if you think it is not enough ... ask good how they calculate the payments. Not sure that they would like that you ask of course .. but there has to be some sort of rationale behind how the calculate the earnings. Like lots of these sites it might depend on the overall amount they earn ... which means it would vary from day to day. Good luck in finding out and if you do .... post it so everyone can read how it is calculated.
