It usually takes me about 2 hours to get to sleep each night no matter what night. on a stressful night it can take up to 4 hours to get to sleep. My mother says it might've been the sleeping pills my father's mother gave me on a constant basis when i was an infant. I actually don't consider myself to be an insomniac because ive heard many stories of real insomniacs - people who can only get 2 hours of sleep each night and there are those who cannot sleep for days. Do any of you find it hard to get to sleep? How do you overcome it?

Hi! I do have insomnia from time to time. Believe it or not, coffee usually makes me sleepy. I don't know why but I guess it's probably the amount I put with lots of sugar and milk. Sometimes when I can't sleep, I try cleaning and fixing some things until I get tired and sleepy. It usually works. My neighbor is an insomniac. She said the doctor advised her to drink water. The doctor said that one of the reasons people cannot sleep is that they lack water in their body. You can try drinking a glass before bedtime. It might just work. Thanks and have a nice day!

my mum also finds it easier to sleep when she drinks coffee, not tea though. This is funny, when i don't drink water, its harder to sleep - but if i drink too much then i cannot sleep as i would have to get up to pee.

Oh yes :) Water to cure insomnia but you still get up in the middle of the night to pee...hmmmm half a glass of water an hour before bedtime then? hehe. Maybe time it just before you go to bed you will pee it out? Anyway are you still having this problem. I hope not. :)

I also suffer with insomnia, it's mainly due to the stress and not being able to find work. I find that taking a sudoku puzzle book up to bed with me helps, I find that number crunching tires my brain out, because I can lie in bed tossing and turning with my brain thinking about so much stuff that it just won't turn off. After a couple of puzzles my eyes get heavy and as soon as I turn the light off I am asleep, works for me and thankfully I have cured my insomnia. Good luck and hope you find a solution to yours.

ahh, that seems like a good idea, i will try that with some old puzzle books that i have in the storage room. I've tried reading recently - it worked really well at first but started to wear off.

yes, i suffer from insomnia, too. here are some tips that could get you sleeping soundly: 1) take a warm bath 2) drink warm milk just before you sleep 3) think happy thoughts 4) pray goodnight! toonatoons http://toonatoons-underthesun.blogspot.com

thank you, my mum always tells me to drink a warm glass of milk every night - doesn't really work though, but definitely the clear happy mind one sometimes works.

Althoug you dont consider yourself as a insomniac ,taking two hours to get to sleep is clearly not good enough. Usually it takes me less than 40 minutes being that I listen to english for about 10 minute before I sleep so maybe just take me 30 minutes. But I did have the experence that I can not get to sleep for hours I found that's because I did exercises befor I went to bed, now I change my exercise time I'm alright again. So dont do anything make you excited befor you go to bed.

ah, that is true - i have heard that one as well. exercising increases your heart rate - even though you feel tired after exercising you are in fact pumped up with body activity at an all time high. But i don't exercise before i go to bed - maybe its to do with many other things as well - i probably should read a book.
