about 4,700 babies are born in the philippines everyday. and it is saddening to think that every 1,000 live births, more than 50 infants diew annually b4 reaching their first birthday. the major reason for the high incidence of infant death is respiratory and gastro intestinal disease which could have been easily and cheaply prevented. This situation is made worse by the mother's state of malnutrition and frequent and unplanned pregnancies..

carefull family planning and preparation before pregnancy will eventually solve this problem but in the Philippines, huge percentage of pregnancies are unwanted that also leads to unwanted endings..
