One of our major options here in mylot is to either allow or not to allow any mature content in the discussions that appear to us and in the discussions that we start.
I would just want to know: Do you prefer to allow mature content?
Personally, I do allow mature content because I think it's just OK - I am of legal age and I guess getting into some discussions at such a level would be just fine.
Please share your insights regarding this...

I am in favor of any discussion, unless it is aimed at a group of people and is intended to cause hatred, or incite others. We have the right to pick and choose any topic of discussion we want to answer or ignore. I believe that we are intelligent enough to choose what we want to answer. I am am against having limits and censors telling me what I may or may not write. We have allowed out lives to be gradually eroded with things that we are no longer allowed to do because they are for the "common good"

RobinJ I really couldn't have said it better myself! I commend you for hitting the nail squarely on the head! I wish their were more people that were like minded here on mylot. Thank you for such an honest post.

I allowed mature content because if we wont- we wont be able to post mature discussion and we cant use those words consider mature in nature.
Thats the main reason why I allow mature content. :)

I allow mature content, I se nothing wrong with it. Especially when mature content on here limits words even. I am above the age of consenting and have a very open mind, so see nothign wrong with a dirty joke or a very colorful discussion.

I do not feel any problem to talk about mature content in mylot as long as we do not use soem nasty lanugages and try to keep the conversation clean. It is normal for adults to talk about manture content, but be sure not to misues the rights in it as mylot is not a site for mature content only, we still have alot of good discussions out there.

Mature content??? Is that when you talk about seniors and stuff like social security???
Just Joking ... I checked the box to allow mature content, I am part of a roleplay community that is based on a mature subject, so it is part of my online life to begin with. I figure as long as it is not open to minors and if parents control their computer so that their underage children can't access it, and it isn't anything illegal, then it is ok.
Safe Sane and Consentual. Don't force it on someone who doesn't want to read it but also don't restrict it from those of us who want to.

I do not see nothing wrong with mature content, If we are all adults, we can feel free to discuss adult matters. I too and of legal age so it is perfectly fine for me to post or reply to a mature content topic.

ZThere is nothing wrong in mature content, but it should be written and put in a mature manner too!
Now please don't ask that what do you mean by mature manner?

Yes, I allow mature content. I don't see any special reason not to.
To answer, or even read a discussion is my choice, and if there is anything that I don't like I just close the window and go for the next discussion.
But I like to have the opportunity to read all the posts, mature content and all :)

Well as I read it you have only had responses from people that allow mature content. Now is that because most people do or because everybody else did not want to either read this discussion or reply to it? I suppose it has not been going very long really. I have mature discussion turned off at the moment and have not come across many posts that I was not allowed to read anyway. Now I can't find where to change it to read this discussion to see what is considered worthy of blocking. Can somebody please remind me where it is. I thought it was under 'edit your preferences' but I could not see it there. Thanks.

I'm fairly new to My Lot. I think the settings default to NOT accept mature content, and I haven't changed it. I can handle mature discussion but I prefer to avoid filth. I can simply skip discussions if they are too off color.
I've been thinking I should change the setting to allow mature content, since there are posts I cannot read and words I cannot use even when they aren't intended in "mature" way. In fact, I can't read quite a few of the posts in this topic... So, how do I change the setting? LOL

I think it's just fine to allow mature content for us to have some discussions that some people find it hard to have it on a personal conversation...

yes, even i do allow mature content coz in certain areas you cannot do without it.. as long as it not written to hurt someone's feelings and is just a general discussion i am in favour, but when someone tries to cross these lines.. then there is a strict no to that person.

Of course...I think it should be allowed. Maybe they could omit it from Today's Top Discussions and only have it go to my interests. That way those who it may offend won't even have to see it. We can just view them under Discussions from my Interests. Just a thought! I think for the most part we are all adults and there are MANY valid topics/conversations we could and need to have in this category.
