I have a Nikon and it is one of the best brand name. I dont know how PhP value is in US$ or in €uro but I suggest you not least than 5 megapixels. Choose a model with a rechargeable internal battery and not batteries because them have short duration. After remember that what you see is not always what the camera captures. maybe little differences. it depends from many factors and form how is built the camera.

I have an Olympus SP-350 8mg, I love it because it has a large screen and a good strong flash, I started off by using rechargable batteries, very good batteries but it certainly goes through them as all Digital cameras seem to do, I have since been using lithium batties which can be expensive but you get about 1000shots which I think is better than batteries you have to keep changing...

I may recommend you sony, coz based on personal experience the picture quality is great. I have one sony dsc-s600 6.0 mega pixel, carl_zeis lens. There are also offer this month from sony website which lower price than dsc-s600. Feel free to view this site http://www.sony.com.ph . Prices were posted on that website but i am not sure how much it is in store.
Here in my place is much cheaper =)
