Why Africa is called a dark continent?

I heard many call Africa a dark continent, but wonder sometimes that why is called so. Is it called dark continent bcoz of the colour of the native people living there or due no electricity (in past) there or for any other reason?...

Rainsborough Africa was called the Dark continent by Europeans because of the lack of knowledge they had about. Pariculary Central Africa. As little was known of African geography map makers would leave the region dark.

When someone is talking to me, I like to pay attention to just them. And it bothers me when someone else butts in and starts talking. And, my worse pet peeve is when I'm trying to talk to someone about something and someone else...

Rainsborough I don't know. Personally I try and give people what they need to the extent my charity allows and simply hope they reciprocate.
