Looking to buy an MP3 player for my son. He wants an Ipod. What is the benefit of an Ipod versus other MP3 players?

My son is 15. He recently saw a samsung he liked and it is about $40 cheaper than the Ipod of the same size, but i still don't know much about reliability and ease of use.
