torkyn draw lines and screw with commands after a little while you just pick it up. unless you want to learn 3d which gets a bit harder. there is usually a truck load of free online resources though so i wouldn't worry about paying for it.

torkyn I use 3ds max as it is great for beginners the user interface is easier to use and it has a big community but if you where going after a professional career i would recommend Maya as it tends to be used more by professionals. not to say max isn't though.
